Wait, they both called you tonight? Are you serious? That’s interesting. If I might ask, what is the first letter of your last name, in case they are indeed calling alphabetically…

The last name starts with ‘D’.

@banyen - go for case ppsp. no mcat, ranked higher than miami and has access to cleveland clinic etc

just went through the full packet of umkc. so much paper and instructions. very hectic for parents i guess. just opened the other day to see if S was accepted and he was. Now wanted to see what is involved and a methodical folder is in place with all dates and organized well. however, it is over whelming :-)

Just recd. the Singers scholarship for UM BS/MD. Am really confused now. Got the NC State Parks scholarship (I will come out debt free and also be able to apply to other colleges UNC which for me will be instate and cheaper). However like UM and the 7 year program and the scholarship makes it very very attractive.
PLease help with any input.

Hi all,

My D did not get into any BS/MD program. (Kind of depressing. So I didn’t login to cc so far). I go few PM’s asking for status, so here you go…

BS/MD:
UM HPME -> interviewed and rejected (She got Singers & 52k scholarships per year. may not go there though)
Penn state ->interviewed and rejected (got good UG scholarship, not going there)
VCU -> interviewed and rejected
BSU/GCW ->interviewed and rejected at 2nd round
UMKC -> we canceled the interview
Drexel -> we canceled the interview
Albany -> no interview call & rejected
UR-> no interview call & rejected
Rice -> no interview call & rejected
Case Western -> no interview call & rejected
Upitt -> interviewed & waiting (not counting though. she already got (4 years) free ride)

All the above schools offered UG with good scholarships. Funny for them (I guess).

Stats:
ACT 36
SAT 2300
SAT II 800s
GPA weighted: 6.95 unweighted: 3.9 IB school + lots of APs with 5
National Merit Finalist
US Presidential Scholars Candidate

ECs:
4 years of VA hospital Volunteer + Intern + Mentor (over 1000 hours)
2 years of Cancer Research Intern
2 years of Public Television Crew (got state award)
4 years of youth crop from local gov program
1 year of Children’s Hospital Volunteer
Shadowing 6 Dr at VA for 4 year
7 years of Model United Nations - President
Lot of clubs and leadership roles
Founded a club at school and an org at VA
Few others

Anyway (good part),
She got accepted several to top 20 schools.
2 top 50 schools offered free ride.
4 state schools offered free ride.
Got UCF’s 4+4 BSM program with UG free ride (Not sure about this program. Sounds like BS/MD program with guaranteed MD seat . But interview/faculty evaluation required at the end of 3 year)

She has to pick one of these schools if she didn’t get uPitt.

Good luck to everyone.

@KLM123 your daughter worked really hard through her HS years, and it’s a shame she didn’t get into any programs. She’ll still shine wherever she goes! Good luck! And make sure to post this in the results thread.

stats are very impressive

@KLM123 your daughters stats and resume seem to be amazing. It is beyond me why she was not accepted into a program as she seems to be a perfect candidate. However, with this in mind, the amount that your daughter has accomplished also shows that if she continues her hard work, she is bright enough that she won’t have a problem getting into the medical school of her choice. I wish you and her the best of luck, keep your head up, and your daughter will be a fantastic doctor one day

@KLM123 do not feel depressed! she is obviously very dedicated and talented and will be very successful in the future no doubt! All that hard work will 100% undoubtedly pay off one day

@KLM123, thank you so much for sharing your daughter’s stats. I am pleased to see that she has many good scholarship offers from many good colleges eventhough she did not get into a BS/MD program. Your post really helps me see how difficult it is to get into a BS/MD program.

hey guys so i got my NJIT/NJMS acceptance call earlier today from Dr. Dhawan, and then I got my TCNJ/NJMS acceptance call from Dr. Shevlin just now (My last name begins with “Z” by the way). Additionally I also got into Villanova/Drexel and Drexel/Drexel. But now I’m having trouble deciding where to go so I hope I could get some help/advice.

I’m pretty much deciding b/w Drexel/Drexel (full tuition to drexel undergrad) and those two NJMS ones. I know there is no required minimum MCAT score for the NJMS programs, so that definitely entices me. But still it’s hard to definitively choose either or. Any ideas or advice anyone!?

Thanks for all your help guys from like 4 pages ago. Looks like I’m choosing PACT! Medicine96, looks like I’m going to be part of your class… No creepy… :D

go with NJMS. drexel is not guarenteed. read their website. the last sentence says that it is not guarenteed

I hope to hell then that it is not going alphabetically for NJIT. I really want to get into NJMS. I don’t think I’m getting called tonight, so unless they are calling again tomorrow, I’ll call tomorrow morning at the HC.

thank you HPMEMOM! yeah i’m leaning towards NJMS too, but still only because of that MCAT/guarantee reason. do u know of any other substantial reason NJMS>Drexel, like strictly dealing with the medical school itself

@TheBombingRange yeah apparently its alphabetical for TCNJ but idk about NJIT. good luck tho!

KLM, sorry to hear that, your D deserves a better outcome. Think she shall go UM, they offer another chance after two years, “early assurance”, it’s free, and there is an upside to that, if her MCAT is high enough, she will get scholarship for med school as well. I’m surprised Penn State offer scholarship, two-years only there, maybe for out-of-state? I know drexel does offer money, guess she didn’t like there.

KLM - what undergrad school is she considering if not BS/MD.

@pcb1604, She got Penn State regular UG ie 4 years.
@texaspg, Not sure yet. Most UG results came on 28th after 5pm. So we are still waiting on their pkg.

Thank you all for your kind words and support
