Yes, looking forward to. Good luck.

Do you know how many people apply, given interviews, and are accepte to Northwestern’s program?

No, I have no idea, but I guess thousands applied.

Northwestern just requires very high stats gpa and act/sat
Actually as a school for any of its majors the school’s philosophy is to be the best at what it offers. They actually closed their dental school down because at one time less students were applying but to keep the money flowing in they were accepting students (still excellent students) whose scores were in the bottom bracket they normally accept. They felt that this was not what they wanted to be about. so they just shut the school down. They just want the best of the best.

Kind of disturbing if you ask me. It seems like they claim that if you don’t have high test scores that they can’t train you to rise to the level they claim their students have - so the question is Is it the school that’s great at educating them or is it the students who would be excellent no matter where they went anyway?

MedicalBoy, class1417,

Sorry to hear about Northwestern. Good luck on the Jefferson interview.

160 or so get picked and 40 offered (don’t know how many apply but I would expect at least 3-4000 if not more).

@Medicalboy, do not let this get to you. Guaranteed for medical school just after high school is not a common road, so we should take all as a way to try our luck. It is extremely hard for admission officers to pick just few out of hundreds or thousands of extremely qualified applicants, as you can see already, it is kind of random.

Also rejected from Northwestern HPME. I know everyone who received the same bad news would be down (I am a little as well since that is my daughter’s top choice as an UG school, if she is accepted UG and nowhere for BA/MD she will probably attend), but as I said, she is pretty philosophical about it all (as in expecting the worst case of not getting in BA/MD anywhere).

I am not sure it is just GPA/stats because my daughter has near perfect numbers - unless they are looking for perfect numbers then ah well! As I may have mentioned before my daughter is on the quiet side (using musicals as an analogy she has said she would be the stage manager versus a player) so I think her essays and ECs may reflect that, and if NW looks for stars that would not be a fit for her.

As IMGDAD has very well said earlier, don’t let it get you down, think of it as a fit rather than a reflection of your worth, you all clearly have good intellect, work ethic and passion that will lead to success whatever path you take. Again, best of luck to everyone!

@SLCMom: My son is in the same situation as your D. He has perfect scores for ACT and all subjects.
His SAT is close to perfect. He is a musician and also little quiet (not really for me, he just does not talk too much when he does not know people very well at the beginning…). Luckily, he was accepted by one of the top school through EA. We treat any BA/MD program as a bonus if he can get in.

Good luck to everyone.

S was rejected by Case Western, Northwestern. The last one he is waiting for is Brown’s PLME, which I don’t think he has any chance.

@jennysatact
Congrats on the EA and best of luck for Brown, since they have no interviews your son would still have a chance given his stats and especially if he has good ECs and essays (which I unfortunately can’t say is the case for my daughter) - that’s what I was told. I wonder what Brown looks for…

Thank you, SLCMom. S will have his Brown interview on Thursday night. I am not sure if this interview has anything to do with PLME program. Cross my fingers.

@jennysatact
Perhaps that is the UG interview? My daughter had one a few weeks ago and it is definitely not about the PLME for her.

Perhaps others on this forum who knows more about the Brown PLME could comment please?

OMG have they started sending out hpme rejections???

Yes it’s true about NW wanting students who are real go getters. I met a family whose daughter had higher stats but was rejected from NW and made it into another program and her brother who had lower stats was accepted to NW but rejected from the one she was accepted into. It is a lot about fit.

Is it harder to get into plme or hpme

Going by the ratio of acceptances to applicants, probably PLME. Since Brown does not have a pre-application to screen out candidates, and then do not have a rigorous application to the program (other than the supplemental essay on the common app) requiring a separate set of recommendation letters, and Brown being, well Brown, PLME likely gets a much larger number of applications compared to NW HPME.

@SLCmom, my S is similar to your D, he is quiet with strangers but sometimes can not stop talking at home. Not sure how interviews will go. Keep fingers crossed.

Best of luck to your son!

@MedicalBoy and @starlight27, i have a question about BU program. website said foreign language SAT was recommended…did you guys submit foreign language SAT?
