Thank you

Has anyone else applied to RMU for the Drexel program?

@Midhelper

Our son was given 120K merit award at Case. After being rejected by PPSP, he did express his interest by completing the optional essay, mainly expressing his desire to pursue research. If he does not get into RPI/Albany, I will strongly campaign for him to consider Case over Wash U. But he has track of making his own decisions in terms of school choices (he did not take my advice on the choice of high school), I think it’ll be losing cause. Growing up in Midwest, Case had an excellent reputation as a quality institution…I applied and got into their dental program in 80’s. I hope he gets into RPI/Albany then everything would be fine with both of us.

What’s the time frame for “this round” at RPI ? Is it before March ?

Do you guys know how many students are selected for PPSP program?

@upstream the last AMC interviews are on March 31 and they meet that Tues or Wed and results can either go out Fri April 4 or Mon April 7th. The waiting is difficult. Good luck to your son. A 30K/year is a bit higher than what my son was offered so it sounds like your son is probably higher on the list but my son is leaning toward the Union program. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

@class1417 I sent thank-you emails everywhere I interviewed

Accepted into REMS (recd snail mail yesterday)

@Nlb2014, My S had applied to RMU, and was interviewed by Drexel College of Medicine on 1 March.

congrats @med007!

There is a facebook group for anyone who got into VCU GMED, even if you aren’t sure if you are attending you should join the group to get to know potential future classmates.
Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/491878810935565/

Congrats to @med007 and everyone else who has received acceptances! Again, the rest of us, hang in there.

Was away for the weekend hiking in Arches so catching up now…folks if you have never visited the national parks in the south of Utah consider getting a group together and visiting during next spring break. The scenary is gorgeous, the weather perfect (well, at least for me), and the places are still not overcrowded (unlike the beaches). We saw quite a few college students on spring break and they seemed to be having a blast! It will be a nice “reward” for the stress you are going through now…

@class1417
I am sorry you and your son are stressed by Case Western’s strange decision. I hope the feedback you got helped.

My daughter received the same “wait list” result. She also was rejected from PPSP (no interview), followed up with indicating interest in the “regular” undergraduate, wrote the optional essay (I just looked at it again, no Shakespeare but decent), and we did not apply for financial aid (since Case Western is need sensitive). Still waitlisted.

She also had the same concern that it implies she has no chance at the other “regular” undergraduate schools she applied to, including those of the combined programs (Northwestern is her top choice - she did not get an interview but would still like to be considered for the regular undergraduate school). I reminded her that she already received an acceptance to WUSTL (in the shock of Case Western’s decision she appeared to have forgotten all the other acceptances) so if worst case, she didn’t get into any combined programs and no other “regular” colleges, then off to WUSTL she goes. Her (and our) preference is for a combined program, but it is what it is.

I hate to be cynical but I think Case Western is just applying the same tactic WUSTL is supposed to have employed to increase its selectivity and ranking. It is not a reflection on your son’s worth and ability to be admitted to other schools.

I can see that if Case Western is the safety for your son and if he didn’t apply to other colleges that could be a different situation, but I would guess that he does have other schools and other options, at the very least the other undergraduate schools of the combined programs? If he truly wants Case Western I would suggest he discuss with his school counselor, perhaps to call Case Western and intercede for him. Best of luck!

Rejection email from brooklyn ba/md:(

sorry to hear @princessher96

@SLCMom this whole Case thing is so perplexing, it is truly disturbing. I wonder if they will come out with some sort of press release about it soon.

@ MIDHELPER
Same as my son. He is shocked but not upset for case decision ( He also applied for PPSP,but no interview). Anyway i believe we kids all have other prestigious schools to fit them well in the future. God already plans the right spot for them. Now, just have to be patient to wait and prey. I went through the stage a few years ago for my daughter’s bs/md decisions. She had been crying out from mid-Feb till end of March. Fortunately she got all bs/md schools she applied. Now she will be in the first year in Medical school in Case in this coming July. It is a torturous
process for them to go through. I have to say there are no magic formulas for BS/MD programs. Students need to persist do things to show their consistency and passion in any activities. You don’t have to be a science or Math winners. You don’t have to be a Intel semi or finalist. My daughter is excellent in performing arts and got many awards in city and state level. Her efforts in r performing arts has been recognized by many schools( Of course, she is a great student academically. She was Sals in very renowned HS in east coast).

@asianmay38 I am really curious and I think it would help many others. Is it possible for you to post your daughter’s stats that got her the interview at Case PPSP and finally acceptance?

The perplexing part to me is that my son’s test scores are not as high as many of those wait listed at Case but he got in with a scholarship. This is a strong message, IMO, that Case is definitely looking beyond test scores for their UG portion.

For the nature of thread, I think many BS/MD applicants out there would like to know what it takes to get an interview and acceptance from Case PPSP and your information would be very helpful.

Case isn’t doing a “hollistic” application viewing as you think , @midhelper, they are doing a marketing strategy right now and trying to improve their ranking. I am disappointed with Case. They should not try to be doing this. Rankings and reputations usually reflect strength of the alumni and school as a whole, and students should not go to Case hoping that they will have a great education and come out great when the school itself took a “sidepath” to increase its rank and rep

@Midhelper, sometimes I read your posts thinking that I wrote it (well, except yours is in perfect English :">)
I also have been wondering about the profile of accepted BS/MD students. Many students and parents would benefit from reading the actual details of accepted student profile.

Congratulations on acceptance! For those who has not get acceptance from program yet, BS/MD is not the only path to be a Doctor, actually most people take the other way.

@SLCMom, thanks for the info. After coming here and see how many excellent candidates are waitlisted, my Son and I feel better. We were worried that something in our application went terribly wrong, but now it appears this is not the case. I already contacted guidance in the school. He is going to call but told me be prepared they just give the same reason as stated in the letter. WUSL is a great school, comparable to ivies in my mind. So this is a great backup should the programs not come out as wishes. I am really happy for you and your D!

@slcmom

How important the interview is for RPI/AMC? According to your conversation RPI/AMC will review everything for final decision not just interview itself?
