I felt the interviews with the med student and faculty professor went ok, but the one with Dr. Green was a little rough. Couldn’t really get a read on her.

I doubt it. If there is, I’m pretty sure most students will go into Weinberg or McCormick. Don’t think HPME really cares too much about how many go into either one. I selected Weinberg.
How did your interview go?

I’m McCormick, and I’d say our experiences were somewhat similar. Dr. Green’s was pretty hard at first, but it got a little easier as it went along. Overall, she was a very nice person, I thought. But she needed to separate the men from the boys.

The other two interviews went well. My MS3 and I had a very comprehensive interview that went on for about 45 min though it was supposed to be 30 min (which kind of cut into my essay writing time haha). My faculty interviewer and I mostly went over stuff that wasn’t in my application and even discussed stuff about med school and residency admissions.

There is no sugarcoating the fact that this is a tough program to get into. I was honored and surprised to even have received an interview in the first place, so I can’t really bank on an HPME acceptance. As trite as it sounds, I’m hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

@TheBombingRange - “They told us that 25 students were offered an interview, 12 were accepted, and 9 matriculated this past year out of around 400 applicants.”
12 out of 25… the percentage is kind of high, isn’t it?

There were 6 kids, including me, interviewing on my day for NU HPME… a few of them started loudly swearing in the waiting room, using cuss words etc. after Dr. Green’s interview. I was like, umm, we’re sitting in a waiting room in an office environment, and all of their offices are literally down the hall, and Dr. Green could walk over here at any moment… could you maybe not talk so much about how Dr. Green kicked your *** please. I sincerely hope these kids don’t get accepted, that was uncalled for

Well the percentage is high since they only interview 25, most programs interview around 40 to 50. I believe it’s because they do it so late in the interview season. I just know for a fact that 9 matriculated this year and that there were around 8 people on my interview day, one of three days offered, so that matches up with the numbers we were told.

@TheBombingRange I’m not sure if you have already answered this question, but do you remember how your interview was for stony? Was there a group interview? How many interviewers you had and the types of questions they asked?

@WelsCool, Dr. Green had a tough interview, but the reason why I liked her was that she didn’t stop asking questions, so she was always seeking to get more information, probably information other than what was on our application.

I’m surprised that cussing incident went unnoticed. On one blog, I saw someone write about HPME that there were stories of lore about students who were overheard cussing or forgetting to help someone who dropped papers, and these students were apparently sent home without an interview.

If those kids had the audacity to grossly cuss in the actual office itself, where, yes, the offices are fairly close by, that’s just horrible.

@Doyoulnowwhoiam - “Stony interviews less than 15 and accepts less than 10…”
How could you possibly know that - Stony interviews less than 15 ? Anyway, 15 seems too low… the yield would be very high (HYP like).
