<p>Ok, first of all, I am not that bad at essays. Actually, I score pretty high. But say some gay topic comes up, can I make up my historical examples , use current events that never actually happened (reference them to bogus articles i read in “the Economist”, or Times, etc), or even more extreme, use fake books?</p>
<p>I’m not really planning on doing this, but has anyone tried this, and did it work out?</p>
<p>I got a 5 on the AP English Composition test with an essay about a book I hadn’t read in two years and whose characters’ names I couldn’t remember.</p>
<p>I think making up character names/altering plots is fine, however I’d be cautious about making up events and pretending they actually happened which may confuse the graders and I can’t imagine they’d give you a higher score if they didn’t know what you were talking about. But hey, maybe it’s better to make up an event than to use an awful one like mine (talking about too-young chinese athletes in the Olympics for the ethics prompt in March '09)</p>
