So I am in a pickle. I am a transfer student. I’ve been accepted into liberal arts programs at 2 schools. Keep in mind, these are both online programs. I am unable to relocate. I was accepted into BU (MET College) as a transfer student into a 62 credit liberal arts program. I was also accepted into a liberal arts program at St Joseph’s University in PA.

I know liberal arts isn’t a hot major, but I’m set on it. The programs are both very similar. All things being equal, I would choose BU, but unfortunately they’re not equal. I know I’ll never attend an Ivy League, and I love the prestige the school has. The program is top notch, professors are all very highly educated/established. I love the city, the school, and everything it offers.

St. Josephs is nothing to shake a stick at, but it doesn’t quite carry the name of BU. The professors all look good, but some are adjunct, etc. The courses look interesting, not quite so much as BU.

The dividing line for me is… of course… the price. BU will set me back about 44k in loans. SJU will set me back about 26k. I plan on using my degree immediately, and in my case, being a liberal arts major will help. I want to be an enrollment advisor/program coordinator for one of the big schools here. With me wanting to apply to work at a big state univ, I figure they will know the BU name. My question is… Will the weight of the name actually be beneficial when looking for a job? Is it worth the cost difference of 18k? Thanks!
