^^^ I agree. He could be any one of our sons, or she could be any one of our daughters. These are people “like us.”

On the defense lawyer:

"The attorney defending accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff may be facing what appears to be mounting physical evidence, but John Salsberg has pulled off tough cases before.

In another high-profile homicide case that made headlines in 2004, Salsberg helped absolve Kyle Bryant, then 22, of the murders of his girlfriend Chauntae Renee Jones, 14, and their unborn baby.

Jones, eight-months pregnant, was bludgeoned, choked, stabbed with a steak knife and buried alive on the grounds of the abandoned Boston State Hospital in Mattapan in 1999. After jurors heard Bryant’s taped confession that he stood silently by as his friend Lord Hampton savagely killed Jones to untangle him from the relationship, it appeared an open and shut case.

Yet, with Salsberg’s guidance, Bryant walked away a free man."

So far they have panties of the victims in his apartment (tucked away in a secret hollowed out copy of an anatomy book), fingerprints linking him to the third case in Rhode Island, his gun, his bullets, the same plastic ties used to bind the victims were also found in his apartment, tech. evidence regarding contacts with the victims, and his photo on camera at the time of the crime. I also read somewhere that his family has visited him only twice and was told by him to expect more stuff to surface.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_crime/2009/04/22/2009-04-22_morgan_houston_recalls_close_call_markoff.html

I bet this guy has been “off” for quite a while and people dismissed it.

If O.J. can get off, with all the evidence that linked him to the 2 murders, then anyone can get off no matter what the evidence is. I imagine Casey Anthony will probably win her case, too. The legal system in this country has gone so far off track that it’s a joke.

According to today’s news, he told his family that more information would be coming out, and that they should just forget about him. Then on the morning news a gentleman was interviewed (in shadows) who said Markoff had contaacted him, through Craigslist, to have sexual relations with a transvestite, using the email “sexaddict(with some numbers afterward)”. The wedding band has been cancelled. [“Craigslist Killer” May Have Sought Trannies as Well | NBC New York](<a href=“Local – NBC New York”>Local – NBC New York)

This would certainly fit the profile of victimizing people who would not go to the police which has been stated by many professionals to be his M.O.

^^^ Well, he seems to have guessed wrong…

Here is the article from The Today show [Was Craigslist suspect also targeting men? - TODAY People](http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/30431717/) with the email address he used. I am wondering if “5385” is perchance his birthday?? If so, not smart.

it appears that Markoff’s contacting transvestites was more sexually explicit. Reportedly he sent explicit pics of him, etc. Wonder if he was targeting the men as victims or if they were targeted for sex? very sad for this family to be told, more will come out, forget me.

the woman who reported that he pushed her up against a wall to kiss her in college sounds like she was “creeped out” but chalked it up to social awkwardness. seems to me there is an opportunity to help college students, male and female, identify the difference btwn someone who is shy, awkward and someone who is forcing himself on someone.

The first victim contacted the cops immediately. Here is a transcript of the interview she gave:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/04/25/48hours/main4968896.shtml

It clears up some questions I had.

Hard to imagine that he could get such an excellent defense attorney while relying on a public defender paid for by taxpayers. I thought the best defense attorneys got big bucks from rich people.

"The medical student accused of murdering an erotic masseuse he met on Craigslist is drowning in more than $100,000 in student loan debt and is so broke he can’t afford to pay an attorney, according to court papers.

Philip Markoff, a 23-year-old suspended Boston University medical school student, owes $130,000 in student loans and does not get money from his parents, leaving him to lean on a taxpayer-funded attorney for his defense, according to a court document in Boston Municipal Court that labels him indigent."

Brilliant. Then he can claim inadequate legal counsel on appeal.

Talk about pressure. Med school, $130K in loans with probably more to come, a wedding coming up … No wonder he cracked up.

Maybe his parents cut him off financially because of some behavior/attitude issues. We don’t know the story. I have a feeling there is a lot more to his story than “good looking med student robs and kills”. Pressure or not, he’s an “alleged” criminal and killer. God only knows what other crimes and/or killings he may have gone on to commit had he not been caught.

The area where he grew up is middle-class so funding med school may have not been a possibility for his parents.

My D, a freshman, has told me of no less than three incidences that she has been involved in (but not as the direct victim), of a male student getting violent or threatening violence with a female student, usually after drinking. Two of these involved hitting. We are talking three separate men here. One of them is a senior and has hit at least one girl before, as a freshman. He is still there.

This case is the very definition of sensational, but there are plenty of young men out there, “good college students”, who could ruin a young woman’s life. I think that in most cases there’s been some inkling of nasty or violent behavior. It’s just tolerated way too much, until it’s too late.

^ I agree mouse. some of the behaviors he’s demonstrated are concerning but may have been minimized bc he was a clean cut, college or med school student. If he was a gangmember demonstrating the same push her up against the wall behavior he probably would have been reported to the police.

This isn’t the first time that a BU med student has murdered someone…you have to wonder exactly what their admissions people look for in an applicant if they admit an Israeli trained assassin with a history of mental and legal problems!

Both this guy and Markoff were about to start their internships…now that’s scary!

Let’s see - he’s from a small town, his mother sometimes worked in a gift shop, he went to SUNY-Albany.

Well that’s great speculation, but I’m going to go with - they don’t have the money for med school at 40k per year.

crescent, his father is a dentist.
