My DS was also rejected by NEU. I don’t think that a deny for NE will translate in the same for BU. I think that NE’s applicant pool this year was incredibly competitive and it wouldn’t be as crazy for BU. That’s my gut feeling. Let’s see on Saturday!
they begin to release decisions at 8 AM based on past years, all this info is available in the thread if you look at previous pages. again, for future viewers benefit, ALL DECISIONS ARE RELEASED SATURDAY 3/17 BEGINNING AT 8 AM EST BASED ON AN EMAIL SENT 3/1 BY BU ADMISSIONS TITLED “Using Your Boston University Web Account”.
@WilliamNYC I do agree that NEU attracts more competitive students but BU is also looking to make their class size 100 students smaller so the acceptance rate is going to be lower, I think they’re also very concerned about yield. Not sure what NEU is doing for class size but statistically BU had a lower acceptance rate last year even though I do think NEU’s applicant pool has higher scores
Oh and I definitely agree that a rejection from NEU doesn’t equal a rejection from BU, I mean looking at this whole process it’s a gamble, and some kids are better fits for some schools than others. I’ve read of plenty of kids on here that didn’t get into WUSTL but got into Cornell, or got into Boston College and not American University, especially since I consider BU and NEU to be basically equal schools in terms of “rankings”, you never really know what an admissions officer is looking for on the day they read your application
Based purely on yield rates BU is more selective than NU. Both have 29% acceptance rates last year, BU yield was 21% vs NU 18%.
NU has seen significant increases in applications over the last 5 years, thereby lowering their acceptance rate (mainly via international students) but still have a lower % of accepted students who choose to attend.
By comparison, BC had 26% yield and Harvard was 84%.
