BU RISE Applicants 2024

I made a thread for RISE applicants as I couldn’t find one. Today, I received a rejection letter. It appears that there was little interest in my application because it was somewhat earlier than normal. :expressionless:

I also got a rejection email today and wasn’t expecting to hear for several weeks. I guess it’s good to know and move on to other things

True…

My DD got in Practinum. Need to decide in two weeks.

Got in to the matching stage today. Email said a final admission decision by mid to late April. Wondering what % matched will actually get in.

I like your attitude!

Got a rejection email for RISE internship which is also saying that they encourage to apply to high school honors program. Did others get similar message on rejection and does someone know if the High School Honors program is competitive or prestigious ?

it’s taking a college course over the summer, not a research program

Got rejected as well. Was really hoping to get in… I though had decent stats with other experiences…1570 SAT, 4.0 UW, APs covering everything possible in Math and Science ,Dual enrolments in STEM,

Mine too. Would like to get some more information on whether it’s worth it.

Hi - kid just got into BU’s RISE, practicum category. Would love to hear from someone who has attended this. We are trying to decide if this is worth it given the length and cost. Also, is the practicum track prestigious or can anyone get in?

For those who reached the matching stage, congrats!

Advice: have a back-up plan for the summer in case you don’t match.

Regarding the prestige part of your question, if a summer program costs money to do then it is generally not considered prestigious in the college admissions process. Think about it this way — a college admissions officer likely doesn’t care too much about what some random person at the BU summer program decided about who to admit.

Thanks for providing this perspective.

Sorry…. I need to reply to a comment on paid summer research programs….
In general, the common pre college programs may likely not be worth it.

However there are some very selective summer research programs that are absolutely worth it.

SSP is the top example. Here is their Alumni newsletter with college admissions for the last SSP class:

You can also read what MIT has to say about summer science programs:

So to answer the question…. RISE is absolutely selective- both the Internship track and Practicum. Also note that IMO most viewers of this forum are high achieving hs students. You will note that most are rejected from RISE each year based on comments on these annual threads.

Good luck and I would not turn down RISE only because someone on this thread said if it’s a paid program, it likely isn’t worth it. I guarantee there are tons of rejected RISE applicants who would die to have that acceptance letter

Good luck.

Got matched this week for robotics (ECE was my first choice)! Any RISE alumni that would be willing to share about their experience? DM me.

Great news. Congrats!

My daughter was notified she advanced to matching in early March and was advised to expect match confirmation by mid-April. Have others been receiving match confirmations this week? we’re still waiting and facing payment deadlines for other programs this week. Painful to spend thousands just to reserve her spot in those programs just in case BU RISE matching doesn’t work out…

Same here. Waiting to hear back from the matching stage - hopefully it comes out this week. There is a discord with accepted students and alumni, but i can’t post links in replies.

Good luck!

Hi did you find out any more about the Practicum? So many posts about internship track hard to get a sense of the practicum.
