BU RISE Program 2014

Nope… Nothing…

Loving all this anxiety over AP tests and acceptances…

same, i haven’t gotten anything either :frowning: it’s killing me

Yeah I got an “application complete” receipt April 9th, so now it’s been 5 weeks with no reply :/

Someone said that it would be around mid-may.

In my experience, that usually means before the end of june lol…

I’ll continue waiting for RISE, because it would probably be the pinnacle of my summer. But i’ve lost all hope of getting it soon.

(Watch it arrive in like 5 mins lol)

lol did it?

Rejected…but accepted into High School Honors. Anyone know if it’s really worth going?

Lol i got rejected too… Guess it was pretty stupid of me to apply to a rolling program on the last day :|…

And no, i dont think high school honors is worth it. I mean, if you want to learn stuff, then go ahead, but unless you have a lot of money that you dont know what to do with, High school honors is just another program out there for money…

I applied last day too :frowning: I guess I’ll prepare for my likely rejection letter…

Just thought I’d say – Honors is REAL BU courses. You will be in classes with BU students, and you’ll spend your time (and room) with RISE and Honors students. So it’s not as much of a “money scheme” as the programs at some other colleges.

@sewj97 - if you want an unforgettable summer in Boston, it’s worth it.

It’s not a money scheme, I agree, but it is not a good use of money either.

I would rather not use my summer to learn materials at BU, when I could probably learn with JHU CTY online for a fraction of the cost (in fact, thats my plan for the summer).

I’m sure its a great program, but it’s just not what I would think we look for - as we, on this thread, want to do some summer research, along with learning.

I got my confirmation email on 2/21 and just got accepted today after 3 months! So, anythings possible for those of you waiting!!

@student03 - Congrats!

May I ask which subject you applied for?

Electrical and Computer Engineering with Dr. Ajay Joshi

Oh cool!
I was just wondering if they were still taking people for psychology, and then found out I got accepted today.

do you know which lab you’re in?

If anyone has packing questions/what to expect, feel free to message me!

Now that it’s over… How was it :O! I’m an upcoming junior and highly considering BU RISE. I’ll probably apply for something along the lines of molecular biology, so was it worth it? If it’s okay with you guys, can you guys tell me what the questions were for the application so that I have time to think about how to respond to them later on O_o? Thanks :)!

Oops, sorry for the double post… laggy computer.

Same, if anyone could comment on their experience with BU RISE, that’d be much appreciated!

I went to BU RISE this year, and it was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend it. The lab work was hard so you need to be self-motivated to read papers, figure out how to do experiments, and always ask your mentor if you need help. Outside of the lab, there’s opportunities to go to BU’s FitRec, which has awesome workout facilities and a huge pool. You can also visit places nearby on like weekends by taking the subway. There’s tons of places nearby like Quincy Market and other restaurants. The dorms are not bad and the food is ok too. Feel free to pm if you have specific questions.
