BU Supplement: What do you hope to accomplish at BU?

Given what you know about Boston University, what do you hope to accomplish as an undergraduate here? Please respond in an essay of no more than 500 words.

During my 4 years at Boston University, I hope to explore various cultures and make an impact on my life and the university. Being raised in Orange County, CA my life has been very one-way and narrow-minded; at BU I want to change that by reaching outside of my comfort zone and experiencing new things. I would like to travel around the east coast, meet new people who will be significant in my life, attend a BU Hockey game, join a sorority, be in student government, and volunteer in the community.

Academically, my goal is to maintain an A- average by staying focused and working diligently during class. As a political science major, I want to take a wide array of challenging classes that will test my knowledge and prepare me for law school. When the opportunity arises I want to participate in a research project held through Boston Universities UROP program so I can learn outside of the classroom. Generally, the east coast offers many opportunities for Political Science majors, so I plan to jump on any chances that I get to further my education, whether it is by taking extra classes or partaking in an internship in the city. Sometime during my years at BU, I will study abroad in a city such as Istanbul, Turkey or Rome, Italy. I really want to encounter various cultures and use this opportunity to exercise what I have learned in the classroom.

Socially, I would like to join the student government or a sorority. This experience will allow me to share my ideas with the students of BU, meet new people, and adjust to a new pace of life. By joining student government, I will also be able to give back to BU in some way, whether it is by organizing campus events or by simply being a role model for other students. Further into my years at BU I would like to start my own service organization or become a leader in a current organization, such as UNICEF Campus Initiative or Red Cross Volunteers. I am the current President of the UNICEF Club and Red Cross club at my school; therefore, I plan on continuing my participation in those causes throughout college.

In general, I hope that Boston University will help me achieve independence by teaching me how to stand on my own feet. If there is time between school and extracurricular activities, I hope to get a job in order to relieve my parents from some of their financial responsibilities. I know I will be busy with many of the activities at BU, but my education will always come first because none of my other efforts would matter if I were not fulfilling my responsibilities as a student. Overall, I hope to achieve success at Boston University by learning about myself, giving back to the school and community, and growing up to be a responsible adult.

Very good! I’m applying to BU RD too! I’d say telling them what stuff you will be involved in shows how much of an asset you will be to the incoming class. So, I pretty much took a similar route as you in that respect (a good route to go lol).
Don’t really see any grammar mistakes either. I’d say your good to go!
