My dad promised to get me an Ipod after I got into Yale, but now that I’ve been pestering him to let me go to Bulldog Days in April, he said that he’d only pay for one or the other. I’d really like to visit Yale when there are actually students there, since the only time I’ve been on campus was over spring break. On the other hand, an Ipod would provide more than two days of enjoyment. Decisions, decisions…

Quiet you rich boy lol

P.S. Go to Bulldog Days…You can get an IPOD anytime.

Doesn’t that mean that he is not rich?

Anyways, hmm… I would go with bulldog days and then save up for an ipod yourself (possibly one from ebay).

I know Bulldog days is for accepted students and I guess is sort of an orientation, but thats all I know.

What is it? What events occur there, etc etc

I would go with the iPod becuz youre gonna spend years at yale and the iPod can come with you…you’ll have both in the end.

Btw…i thought you were a girl.

but wait…ipods are so amazing =D why dont u just save up money and get one? they really arent that expensive hehe.

i personally would hmmm…go to bull dogs day seeing that from now til april you can probably save up at least 250 or 300 bucks =D

Just because the father said that he’d only pay for one or the other doesn’t mean anything. Rich people often like to conserve money lol

Anyway, I am never promised anything like an IPOD and I was accepted to an Ivy League School. Yale + promises of gifts = 95% likely rich. Yale itself (although fairly diverse) = 50% likely rich

I’m a girl, and my family is not rich. I am, however, Asian, and my parents are cheap, they both work, and I’m an only child, so I guess we’re well off enough to live comfortably but not extravagantly. Certainly not a Gilmore grandparents level of wealth.

And the Ipod wasn’t incentive or anything (my dad never said, if you get in, I’ll get you an Ipod), more like a Christmas, Chinese New Year, and congratulatory gift rolled into one.

Are you out of your mind lol? Definitely choose Bulldog Days. This shouldn’t really be any sort of predicament. You can get an iPod any other time. You only have one chance to go to Bulldog Days.

Hey, how bout let’s stop debating whether she is rich or not.

I would definitely go to Bulldog Days. I mean, it will help you make the right choice as to where you will be spending the next 4 years of your life. You definitely won’t want to make the wrong choice just because you didn’t visit due to the fact that you opted for an iPod (which I predict will get cheaper and cheaper).

llamapyjamas

yes go to bull dog days

but if u want an ipod (i must say it is the greatest invention) the best way to get money is tutoring. i tutor about 8-10 hours a week making an average of 160 bucks each week. after 3 weeks of saving u would have enough money. see if ur school has a tutoring list or just advertise that you will being tutoring =D best way to get money

or just apply for a cash-award scholarships =D

there are many ways to get an ipod and u have a lot of time. bulldog days however is a one time thing =D hope u make the rite decision

Goodness. I guess we have a near consensus. Thanks for the advice- it’s certainly outweighing my dad’s claims that flying down to Yale would be a waste of money since I already know I want to go to school there.

Yay! I’m starting to get excited about being on campus again! :)

If and when you get the ipod, be sure to use the education store discount…the mini ipod price goes from $250 to $229 or so, so it’s a better deal. Have fun at Bulldog Days!

Ohh Kebree, I disagree. The mini iPod is such a rip off. It holds way less songs than the cheapest regular-sized iPod, but still costs the same. I guess in exchange for some memory space you get a pretty color.

Oh, I wasn’t necessarily recommending the mini–I was just showing that the “education” markdown is pretty significant.

Oops sorry. I guess I misread. =)

No problem–I think I mistyped, too =)
I should have said, “For example, the ipod mini drops $20+…,” but oh well. I’ll attribute it to the side effects that result from a switch to GMT…

Forget the iPod.

Get the 40 GB Zen Nomad. Best Buy usually has it on sale for $200. The thing is big, but it fits in your pocket and it has a clip.

As someone who went to Bulldog Days in 2004, I would choose the iPod. In my humble opinion, Bulldog Days was a waste of time, especially for those who know that they want to attend Yale. It in no way gives you an accurate depiction of life at Yale because you are whisked from one pre-planned activity to the next. Then at night its just a bunch of parties on a Monday night that are way too crowded and are simply an excuse for Yalies to see how drunk they can get the high schoolers. For those of you that say it’s important to meet members of your current class I say that is BS. First of all, there is a decent chance that the people you meet won’t even end up choosing Yale and even if they do, you probably won’t remember them once you get to Yale in August. Essentially you are throwing away an iPod just to get drunk one night (believe me once you are here you can get drunk every weekend if you want to) and go to a two-day long sales pitch. If your dad was offering to pay for a trip to visit Yale on a a regular school day, I would probably reccomend taking him up on that offer, but giving up an iPod to go to Bulldog Days is a bad decision.

Oh pooh. Did I mention that I’m a terribly indecisive person?
