Bush = BATMAN?

[What Bush and Batman Have in Common - WSJ.com](http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121694247343482821.html)

I would humbly submit that the answer to this question is that these movies are, indeed, fantasy. Good vs Evil is so easy in a black and white, fantasy world. In the real world, where the “evil” dictator was supported for so many years by the “good” side until the good side decided that they wanted something that the “evil” dictator had, it’s not so black and white who is good and who is evil-or if those terms even apply.

Also, to imply that Bush was doing something dangerous by “speaking the truth” in this case is laughable. Look at what has happened in his Justice Department. Yep, speaking the truth was dangerous, but not for the conservatives.

.

Geez…now Bush is compared to BatMan and Obama to Paris Hilton.

Whatever happened to reporting the facts??

^What? You don’t think it is fact that Bush is like Batman, and Obama is like Paris Hilton???

spideygirl, I’m sorry, but that article is the biggest piece of BS I have read lately. I had a good chuckle.

Still waiting for the re-establishment of those boundaries. And by the way, Exxon reported today that it made the biggest quarterly profit ever reported by a US corporation. Nice…

In my mind’s eye, I’ve always seen Bush as the mysterious, dark and brooding type. However, I’ve never envisioned Obama as a ditzy blonde with a chihuahua.

^ Really? I didn’t think that Bush had the cunning to be dark and brooding. (I just kid, btw).

Unfortunately for that article, this quote killed whatever objectivity it had in it:

While I am Roman Catholic (and I’ve been attending Roman Catholic schools since the second grade), I think that citing Jesus as truth in a public article (even though, inside, I do) shows a very opinionated person. No room for other religions eh?

Seriously, I don’t think all these box office hits are really disguised conservative ideals.

(If Bush was really like Batman, he too would be on the front lines.)

You have a point, AeroEngineer.

I guess you don’t think its right that exxon made such a profit? Exxon is a private company, and people choose to buy their product. Oil companies don’t make a great profit per purchase/gallon sold in comparision to other industries. If people feel wronged that a company is so profitable, don’t buy from them, and conserve your gas.
Hmmm, don’t but the bush is batman concept. Every superhero movie has the good vs evil concept, which can usually be applied to current events. But, bushs answer to 9/11 and the controversy surrounding why we are in Iraq(are those people really responsible for the attacks?) is similair to batmans response to crime in gotham. At first, batman is praised for rounding up the easy criminals(small time terrorist), but then is chastised when he can’t capture joker(bin laden). Gothmites became frustrated with the jokers elusiveness and sadistic behavior. The joke kept releasing videos to tease batman, similair to bin ladens video, and, also similair to the mid east, said he would quite if batman turned himself in(in bushs case, getting out of middle east). Regardless, I don’t think the dark knight intentionally attempted to make such connections. If you try hard enough, you can find some comparision. I somehow don’t see bush as the person to take the fall for a greater good as batman did.
I could buy the joker representing terrorism.

I think this is a closer comparison

It’s a good thing Robin is not in the Dark Knight. I’d have real trouble imagining Dick Cheney as Robin.

OK, I can’t post the link here but if you Google “Bush or Batman” You’ll get a funny YouTube video of people trying to figure out whether a quote is from George W Bush - or Batman.

“The Constitution is the cornerstone of our great nation. We must abide by it.” - Batman

I hope our next President is smarter than a comic book character, and sees a real 3-dimensional world in all its complexities.

I’ve heard this mentioned before I’d seen the movie.

I didn’t like the movie. What’s more, I think the comparison somewhat valid; but not at all complementary.

The good guy in this movie, Harvey Dent, is crushed and turned against himself, his nature destroyed – that’s us Americans. The guys with no common-morality, Batman – Joker, survive. My 10 year old was real put out by this.

And you say one of these jokers represents the President?

Tough crowd.

Jesus was a historical figure who was crucified for telling the truth - this does not necessarily have to be a religious matter. Whether or not a person believes that He was the son of God, He existed. He stood up to power and the status quo, and got in trouble for it (and some of what He taught was of a very common sense and secular nature).

I used an upper case H when I wrote 'he", as I was taught in my religious classes. I noticed the auther did not use an uppercase “o” when he used the pronoun “one” for Jesus.

Citing Jesus’ crucifixion is not evidence of subjectivity, nor is it a slight against any other religions.

Bunsenburner:

Darn those capitalists! Darn those investors, those shareholders, those employees, and everyone else who owns any of the company’s stock in their portfolio! Every last one of them! How dare they!

We must stop this! We must get the government to start an inquiry. We should have trials for each and every swine who benefited from this crime against the people. I say we start a new branch of government to control these evil companies, to prevent them from exploiting the populace.

We should march on this - everywhere, nationwide. The government perhaps can organize this. We should not march without their approval, though. I hope that soon, they will tell us to march, and I will do my duty and be the first to join.

^^^ Spidey, I think most people have no problem with corporations earning profits. That’s what businesses should do. But it is hard to stomach an oil company making its largest profits ever when the cost of their product keeps going up and becoming unaffordable for consumers. It seems that rather than raise the profits to the biggest jump ever, they might consider lowering the cost of their product. That would still be a win win situation. The gas would be more affordable and not keep rising in cost and they would still make a tidy profit.

soozievt:

Right.

I agree with the sentiment (despite my previous sarcastic rant), but it just isn’t realistic.

Hopefully, if we continue to have a pro-business environment (i.e. if Obama is NOT elected), companies will develop products that run without oil and gas. Then the price of oil and gas will come down.

Another real-world way to decrease the price of oil is to create the anticipation of an increased supply. That always brings prices down.

Drill here. Drill now.

But when? We needed it yesterday! … We’re going to continue craving oil as long as we keep finding it. But as oil’s a fossil fuel, and therefore finite in quantity, we’d better be getting extremely serious in coming up with alternatives. Preferably cleaner, cheaper, more efficient ones! Of course, if not the oil companies, it’ll be somebody else gouging the be-jeebers out of us poor plebes. :(

cartera45:

The Vanity Fair link was very interesting. I liked this VF reader response the best.

It makes sense that VF would try to turn it around. The last thing any liberal wants is for daylight to shine on the magic they’ve been brewing against Bush for eight years. I’m not a Bush fan, but the mainstream media has created a whole pile of falsehood when it comes to the President.

The movie is a painful dose of reality, as only fictional art can dish it out.

I agree, Hindoo. What the heck are all those brainiacs at MIT doing anyway?! We need fuel cell technology NOW. Or something else. Oil is a big polluter - it has to go.

Why hasn’t VW’s TDI technology caught on more? Especially in warm or moderate climates, I think those vehicles can run on 99% vegetable oil.
