BUSI100 and BUSI101 at the same time - crazy?

Basicaly, bad registration times forced me to take these classes at the same time. Has anybody done this before? Is it crazy?

marg - I cannot speak for how things are at UNC, though my d is currently taking 100 with Econ 101 and a 17 hour courseload and not having problems.

I am a CPA and my understanding is 100 is the first Intro to Fin Acctg, while 101 is basically a Cost Acctg course. When I was in college, we took two Intro courses our freshman year, and then took Cost with the first of two Intermediate Acctg courses in the Fall of our sophomore year. Both Cost and Intermediate were considered weedout courses for the Acctg major, especially the first Intermediate course. (I notice UNC uses the same Keiso book for Intermediate that we used back in the day, so my experience may be somewhat comparable.)

The problem you may run into is that the Cost class MAY be taught with the presumption that you already have certain basic accounting concepts mastered. I’d speak with an advisor over at Kenan and get their take. If both taught as intros with no prior mastery expected, my personal feeling is you would be okay as long as you weren’t overloaded with other courses.

Btw…who did you get for BUSI 100? My d has the BEST ever professor, Skender. He is a hoot and a great teacher. She loves to walk into class and hear classic rock blasting.

Thank you for the info!
I got Skender  He is the only professor for those classes. I heard wonderful things about him.
I talked to the Business Advisor and she said that, while this is not recommended, it is doable. One of the classes is not recommended before the other, but it is allowed. Hopefully it will all work out…

marg - I think it will also be crucial you get good instruction in your recitations. One helpful hint (you may already know this)…my d had a ‘not so great’ recitation instructor (brilliant, but a bad ‘explainer’) and thankfully, she was told she could attend ANY recitation class she wanted regardless of her enrollment. This helps a lot if things are getting a little murky.

(I told her she could always call home for instruction if she is confused about any concepts…sigh…but she seems determined to do this on her own. Hardheaded girl.)
