Business Amex options?

Any recs for the best card for a small business? I’m leaning towards the Starwood Hotel card, but the others also look good.

What I do for mine – a retail pet store – is to use a rewards card that lets me book travel. I use it for purchasing store inventory and then travel to trade shows that require airline travel and hotel stays on the points. I pay the bill fully each month, never carry a balance, and never pay interest. Mine is a Chase Sapphire Preferred

It’s actually a personal card with dedicated use for the business, but now you’ve got me wondering if I should look around and see what options there might be.

Amex through Costco

I have the CapitolOne Spark Business Visa Card, as well as the Costco AmEx business card. The former gives me back 2% on ALL purchases with NO limit & the amount is redeemable for cash or can be applied against your charges, your choice, whenever you want the check or credit. When I signed up, got a $100 signing bonus and $50 after I received my card & added H as an authorized user. Got this card for a small business and another one for my non-profit. If you charge a lot, it can add up quickly. There is a $59 annual fee which is waived the 1st year. They offer a lot of different cards so be sure you get the one you want. Also, no foreign transaction fees, if you plan to shop out of country.

With the Costco AmEx, it is tiered–up to 4% on gas, 2% on restaurant & travel & 1% on everything else. You get an annual check on the anniversary of when you got your card that you can cash at Costco or use when you shop there. There are still quite a few places who don’t take AmEx, but their extended warranty folks are THE BEST to work with , having had some experience with them and Visa’s folks. MUCH prefer AmEx, so we buy all our electronics on this card. We also make all our Costco purchases and buy all our gas on this card. Most of the rest goes on the CapitolOne.

Oh yea, I always pay off in full & never carry any balance. I do have the Sapphire card–they were giving 50,000 points which translates to $625 toward travel when I got the card. Will use it toward plane ticket(s). It has $95 annual fee–waived 1st year. Still prefer the CapitalOne 2% cash rewards.

We also got the United Explorer card for waived luggage fees, since we DO travel and fly United and H LOVES checking his bag. It is also $95/year but I believe was waived for 1st year. It has PRIMARY rental collision damage coverage–most others are secondary. We got some miles for getting the card & more when we added H as an authorized user.

You can get a lot of consolidated information if you look this stuff up online, on the pointsguy website. The best deal I’d seen (which I took), was a rare time when they offered 75K points for signing up for the business Amex. That’s a huge number of points, for which you can buy things or transfer to Delta for a small fee. Depends upon who you fly with. They just offered that deal again a few weeks ago.

Amex Costco cash back. Our cash every year is around 1200 dollars. You do not have to buy a thing at Costco. Just take the certificate you get in the mail to Costco and make them cash it. It’s like winning at a casino, they hand you the cash
