Business Classes at Princeton?

could a current princeton student please speak about business programs at princeton … for example, are there any ? fiske guide says its not a major…im sure econ is a major but is it the same type of thing?

Princeton does not have a business school similar to Wharton. The university believes that undergraduates should first obtain a well rounded education then concentrate on professional training at law school, med school or business school. Since most students change their major there is a significant advantage in selecting a university that is academically strong in all the areas that you might want to major. I recommend that you visit the university when classes are in session to determine if you would like the campus atmosphere and your peers.

Many Princeton graduates go into business or work on Wall Street. There are many majors that offer students an education that can be applied to a business career. The economics department offers many courses that prepare a student for management. Princeton has four professors in the economics department that have won a Nobel Prize; so the education can be significantly better than the types of courses offered at a business school.

Some students major in the Woodrow Wilson School to prepare for International business or for a career in diplomacy.
Students interested in wall street may major in operations research and financial engineering or take courses in entrepreneurship in the engineering school. Graduate business school will accept students from any major so if you want to study a foreign language and then attend Harvard or Stanford for graduate business school you can do that.

Many of the courses at a business school are courses in marketing, production management, capital markets, budgeting, finance, strategy, accounting, etc. Business school courses are professional training courses.

Do not think that one must major in business to have a career in business. For example Heidi Miller CFO of Citigroup was a history major, Adrea Jung ’79 CEO of Avon Products was an english major, Jeff Bezos '86 founder and CEO of Amazon.com was a computer science major, and CEO of eBay Meg Whitman '77 was an economics major. Follow your passion and major in that field; a career in business can follow.

To add to that, there is a certificate program (basically a minor) in finance–that’s one of the closest things.
