Is this major very competitive to get into? Is the Business Econ major’s workload comparable to that of an engineering major (EE or ME)?

I believe it’s an impacted major so you are admitted as a pre-major until req’s are completed satisfactorily. So it shouldn’t be difficult or competitive to “get into” but will probably be competitive once you’re in it.
I seriously doubt its as difficult as an engineering major.

From what I hear, its difficult to get into because there is a minimum GPA requirement and the way they calculate it is different from just taking your overall GPA. They weigh certain classes more so you have to do well in certain classes.

Minimum primary score to get admitted=3.3

The primary score is basically all the econ pre-reqs added together. However, econ 11 and 101 count something like 3x more than the other ones. In other words, aim for at least a B+ in those two classes, and you should be fine.
If you have Sproul, 11’s a piece of cake. McDevitt, on the other hand, is another story.

Bizecon is probably like pre-algebra as engineering is to Calc ap.

You can’t really compare any undergrad to engineering.

If Bus Econ is pre-algebra, does that make Sociology long division? haha

It’s not cutthroat to get in or anything, so it’s not that bad. The workload is fine. I spent the last few quarters taking a lot of classes from other departments because I finished my major/minor requirements early (and I only got started on them in my second year). Several engineers I know of, on the other hand, seem to think they will need at least an extra quarter before they can graduate.

can’t compare engineering and Bus Econ. One is almost the hardest major and one the below average
Getting in to Bus Econ after you are admitted may not be very easy to many. I have a lot of friend couldn’t get in because less than 3.5 in 11 & 101 or 3.3 with all 11 prereq classes. Especially for transfer students, who only have 3 quarters to apply into Bus Econ, it can be stressful if you don’t do well in Econ 11.
