Business Majors in college / Least Competitive Business Majors

hi,
i am currently a sophomore in high school and i was wondering which are the least competitive business majors one could apply for. i am looking to study business in California. i am looking at places like Cal USC UCLA UCI, are there any specific business majors that are way harder to get into then others? thanks

oh and currently i have a 4.33 gpa, which will go up next year because i’m taking all APs. i also am going to take the act this fall. i have plenty of EC and have over 500 volunteer hours. i also have 2 jobs and going to have 1-2 internships. i also have opened up my own small business.

so what are the chances of picking a specific business major over the other in the USC Business School? Do i have a better chance of getting in picking a specific business major or are all of them similar.

as a sophomore - i wouldn’t get too fixated on one school. If you continue to perform at that level, you will have lots of options available when the time comes. Frankly, 4.3, a 500+ volunteer hours, two jobs, two internships and staring your own company at 15 years old sounds made up. Most schools restrict access to AP courses to freshmen and sophomores and there simply aren’t enough years under your belt or hours in the day for you to have done all that. I’d encourage you to narrow your focus so, you have a cohesive, believable story to tell on your application. Be careful to take classes you can handle and most of all have some fun in the process. I also caution that few people can sustain the pace you are at - your GPA as well as your physical and mental health will suffer if you keep it up.
Good luck.

thanks for your reply!
actually i’m a sophomore and 5/7 classes of mine this years are weighted. last year, as a freshman, i had 3 weighted classes also. i am moving at a fast pace but my gpa is going to remain at a 4.33 for sophomore year which isn’t great because if i got all As i would have a 4.8 but what’s done is done. i’m just going to try to get a super high act or sat score so it will help increase my chances for colleges

I have seen lots of kids on you path burn out… for most people it simply isn’t sustainable. High school is a time to work on your whole self, not just GPA and test scores. Be sure keep your workload manageable and schedule in some fun - recreation that interests you.
Good luck

As Stanford put it, 'it’s not all game if who has the most AP 's, wins '. In addition, you run the risk of being read as an ‘AP junkie’.
Do less, but be extraordinary at it.

All business majors are pretty useless. The only ones worth pursuing are accounting(if you get your CPA) or MIS. Other than those two, you should go STEM!

I have no idea what metric @GeologyDude18 is using for his incorrect statement but I find it …amusing… that somebody interested in geology is calling business useless. And I enjoy geology, don’t get me wrong!

Also, are you sure that there is different levels of competition for different majors? I’d recommend asking the school themselves.

Remember, UCLA does not have an undergraduate business school.

True, UCLA does not have an undergrad business school. However their business econ is almost as good as getting a business school degree. Many firms, including the Big 4, recruit there.

@buzyness: All the schools mentioned in post #1 are very competitive to get into. For Cal, you have to apply during your sophomore year for junior status. I believe UCLA’s business econ is the same too. First, get in and then figure out what you might want to specialize in, especially since you want to major in something less competitive.

Of the schools you mentioned, in terms of difficulty, in getting into business school/business econ: Cal’s Haas Business School is the hardest. Next is probably USC’s Marshall very closely followed by UCLA’s business econ. UCI’s Merage Business School is fourth. Keep in mind that USC is a private school and the costs are much higher than the UC’s for a CA residence.
