<p>First question is how good is the business school at FSU? Is it respected compared to other universities. Also I want to know about greek life.

  1. Is it hard to get into a frat/sorority like are they selective and do a lot of kids not get any bids?
  2. Is it fun?
  3. Is it worth it?
  4. How is the preception of them on campus?</p>

<p>as to Greek life…my son is in a fraternity–and has had mixed feelings about the experience. my advice is to do your research. If you go to preview really talk to the members. Go to every house and then go back to the ones you like. But be aware they play up all the good things fraternities do. Even at orientation the Greek session leader tells you all about philanthropy, academics, and campus involvement, but the reality may be a lot less than that. The average GPAs of fraternities are not that high in general. They do party a lot and there’s a lot of drinking, I can’t speak to how much pressure there is to partake as it may vary depending on the fraternity. Also, it’s costly…figure $750-1000 a semester. </p>

<p>The students on this board can speak better about the perception of fraternities. You can also wait until spring rush, when you would have had a chance to see for yourself how they are perceived.</p>

<p>is it selective, do people go without getting into any houses?</p>

<p>there are some that are considered “top tier” that are more selective. some of the smaller ones may be less so because they want to increase membership. but people do get more than one bid. but to get bids you have to go to the houses during rush week and you have to show interest by going back so it would be hard to do that with a lot of different houses. it’s best to narrow it down to the ones you feel comfortable with and concentrate on them.</p>

<p>How is the pledging? Is there a lot of hazing? And is it all year?</p>

<p>again, can only give you information as it related to my son. His pledging was not all year–it was over by the first semester. there’s at least one fraternity that does not pledge at all…I think it’s ZBT. They are new and so are building up membership–if you join them, you are a member from day one, so there is definitely no hazing. the rest all say they don’t haze…and if they get caught doing it they can be suspended, but I suspect there’s still hazing in some of the fraternities, but members are sworn to secrecy.
again, figure out what you want in a fraternity and find the group that shares those goals…</p>

<p>another thing to consider, in some of the fraternities a bid does not guarantee you membership. they can vote you out during the pledging. Some of the fraternities give a lot of bids then weed out people. so you should ask about that.</p>
