Business: Technical College vs University

I am currently enrolled in a local technical college. I have a little less than 4 weeks left and I’ll be done with my 2nd semester. I am majoring in Business Administration. However, I plan on switching to a new major. Possibly Business Management or even Marketing.

The problem I am having is I don’t know if going to a technical college and majoring in business will do me any good. I am getting 2 completely different answers from people. One of the main reasons why I decided to go to a technical college is because I was told (and always had this impression anyways) that majoring in business at a technical college is no different than majoring in it at a university. However, now I am being told that there is a difference and that a lot of employers would prefer a Bachelor’s in business rather than an Associate’s from a technical college. Not to mention the fact that I am not really the academic type. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of 2 years of core classes if I could simply major in the same thing at a tech school and not have to go through all those classes. If I really had to, I could transfer to a 4-year college, but I don’t want to if it isn’t necessary.

I am also struggling with if majoring in business is really going to help me. I have only ever had 2 jobs interests: Working for a major TV network and owning my own bar. I feel like Business Management would be helpful for the bar and Marketing might be helpful for the TV network. I’m not too sure really.

So basically I am completely confused. Is majoring in business at a technical college really that bad? Will it get me absolutely nowhere? I always get a lot of flack from my parents saying that majoring in business isn’t worth it. Is that true? I always seem to get a bunch of mixed answers. Part of me feels like I just need to go through tech school. I have already gotten 1 year down and have only 1 more to go. Then maybe go back for something else? I don’t know. I honestly just don’t want to be wasting my time at a tech school if ultimately it is going to get me nowhere.
