I see, but it seems like goldman recruits every where, almost every business school website I have been to even like bryant college says they send kids to goldman, Morgan Stanley on the other hand has some odd recruiting schools like bentley (No offense) but not that strong compared to the other guys. Also it seems like the big 4 recruit at every school as well at least one of them recruits insane number of kids from alot of different schools. I know they are accounting firms, but they are the kings of their domain, so one would think it is very strict and only recruiting a limited amount of students. But back to the main point, Is Goldman just really big or whats the deal with that. Also how would you say ND is at placing on Wall Street compared to IU, same level or a little below or what?

Remember you have many different departments. Typically people from the top schools get the front end jobs while the people from the other school end up with operations positions. This is why its important to pay attention to what department and position a school is sending its grads instead of just the company. For all we know they could be on the prop desk or in the mail room.

Mahras, whats the point of that comment?

What is Private Client Service considered? Front Office or Back office?

Let me give you an example on judging the various schools:

Here is a link to JPMorgan: http://newhire.jpmorganchase.com/campusevents/ba-campusevents.html

Choose the school and see for which departments it recruits for at a particular school. Lehman has something of this nature as well but its being updated for the 06/07 year.

PCS I am guessing is akin to private banking which is essentially advising high net worth clients on their investments. That is a different department and not really a powerhouse at ibanks.

They do have division’s right? Likewise how hard is it to break into that division compared to M&A etc?

F429 Investment Banking II (1.5 cr.) P: F428 or consent of instructor. This course will continue the development of the students’ spreadsheet skills and knowledge base of deal structures. There will be an emphasis on developing presentation and writing skills. The major part of the course will involve the students developing a complete oral and written presentation of a deal: a merger, a new issue, a complex refinancing, a solution to a complex hedging problem, or a portfolio structure for a wealthy client. The final will consist of a presentation to the Advisory Board.

That sounds like a fun class. IU I can’t wait.

hey cool they come to IU for operation management (yea i know its a backoffice job but hey you can brag that you work for JPmorgan Chase :)) thats my major!

J.P Morgan hires IU students for corporate finance too.

i see mahras, but I’m not sure how accurate these sites are because it says at IU they recruit for operations positions, but I know for a fact then sent 8 to corporate finance (m &a, capital market issues etc)

yay!!!..

PCS is not as exclusive as the M&A department and is typically easier into.

my behind is THE most exclusive department in the world, NO ONE gets in!! it is more prestigious than any ivy league or Bulge Bracket lol thanks for setting up that joke for me mahras2 LOL

Uhyea> Yes I do understand. However, it gives you a comparitive basis to rank the schools. Although kids from IU do get into corp. fin. it is not the norm. Those websites allow someone to understand which gives a better shot at attaining some of those positions coming out of a particular school. They do not dictate decisions and therefore, exceptions do exist.

I see. Is the salary pretty decent? I know Bears Stearns, has a program for undergrads. Doesn’t mention starting salary though.

Dcho> You welcome. I still do not see the relationship between your behind and the topic at hand but hey bringing a smile to someones face counts to something doesn’t it ;).
