Butler University Early Action for Fall 2023 Admission

Congrats!! My daughter just heard she was accepted too! If she chooses Butler, I’m not sure if she will do honors housing or not. Great opportunity! She’s hearing from a friend who is in some accepted student chats that there were plenty who applied who did not get into honors. I was curious how many kids are accepted into honors, but they don’t seem to share/publish that information.

That’s great! We’re still in hot debate here about where she’ll wind up. She likes Butler a lot though. One more trip planned to see another school and one more scholarship to hear back on and then decision time.

Where else is your daughter considering?

We JUST did our last college visit yesterday to Quinnipiac (in CT), which was our very first time on campus. She was accepted into their direct entry program there for PA school, which is very hard to pass up. But Butler has always been what she’s been leaning toward, so now she is VERY conflicted. She’s still waiting to hear from her last program (a PA Guaranteed Admission Program at University of Pittsburgh). She has received some good merit from all 3, making them all pretty close, financially. Those are likely her top 3 at this point.

What about your daughter?

She’s down to Trinity U in Texas, Hope College in Michigan, and Butler. Hope has offered a lot of merit and she’s a finalist for their full tuition scholarship. Trinity is the most expensive but she loves it and San Antonio, she is waiting on a fine arts scholarship decision from Trinity as well. She loves the great Strat Comm program at Butler though as well, and the basketball

I have no idea what she’s thinking right now, I’m trying not to bug her until after this last trip to Trinity and she hears from Hope. Good luck to your daughter on all her great choices!

Just thought I’d report that my D committed to Butler this weekend and did her housing application yesterday, so it’s official! She’s very excited and despite having another REALLY good offer from Quinnipiac University that was hard to pass up, she really just felt that Butler is where she belongs. She was still waiting from a couple programs, but even if she gets in, she is set. We’re heading to Butler again this weekend (for the 4th time?? after various visits) and it will be fun to be on campus now that she knows this is where she will be. I’m glad to finally just KNOW. Good luck to everyone who is still hearing decisions from schools and trying to make the final choice!

Congrats! We’re still waiting on a few scholarships to make a final decision but I am so over it. Can’t wait for D to commit somewhere!

I know the feeling! You’ll get there soon, hopefully!

hI! i wonder if you can share anything about her experience at Butler and if she did the honors program? thank you!

Hi! My daughter is now a sophomore at Butler and loves it. It has definitely been a great match for her. She is in the honors program, but did not do the honors housing/floor. She recently changed her major from Health Sciences on the pre-PA track with a Neuroscience minor to majoring in Neuroscience (it was only available as a minor when she applied) on the pre-med track. Also, I believe instead of a medical Spanish concentration, she is now planning to minor in it.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you! It seems like such a nice size school- big enough to have everything but not so huge to get lost! At some giant universities the honors programs have smaller classes for the gen eds, which makes it appealing, but i’m assuming the gen eds probably aren’t huge at Butler?
Do the honors students have their own gen ed classes separate from other sections, or just honors seminars that they take? i’m trying to understand how the honors program works there. It’s different at different schools and not super clear on the website.
Trying to decide about pushing son to do the honors app or not, lol! He’s applying for music major, so their schedules aren’t very flexible and wondering if it would even work…
thanks so much for any insights!!!

It is the perfect size school for my daughter. Their freshman year, they all take something called FYS - first year seminar. There are a few options for honors ones, so so far, I think that’s the only required honors class she has taken so far. The gen ed classes are relatively small at Butler anyway. I think my DD’s biggest one was maybe 75 students. Now I forget all the details of the honors classes, but I don’t believe there are normally honors gen ed classes - just the seminars. I’ll ask her some of these questions because now I don’t recall all the details. I don’t believe she is in an actual honors class her sophomore year, but she did a medical-related study abroad trip this past summer that I believe she will be writing a paper on and maybe receiving some credit for through the honors program. She’s pretty self-sufficient and now I forget all the details, lol! I think her applying for the honors program was maybe something she did at the last minute. She is already connected with a professor doing research this year and if I’m not mistaken, she may be utilizing that experience to do her honors thesis down the road. I will ask her more about it!

As her schedule gets more and more crazy (she’s also an athlete and will be working a very PT job next semester in her intended field), who knows, she may need to prioritize things and I think the honors program is a little further down on her list and has said it wouldn’t be the end of the world if she drops it. But she also likes the idea of graduating with “Latin Honors,” so we shall see what happens.

thank you! feel free to pm me with any details that come to mind if prefer! i appreciate this info, as ‘honors’ means different things at different universities, and it gets confusing!!! Sounds like things are going great for her there, what a great feeling for you, i know!!
