Butlers pharmacy or purdue pharmacy

I am considering these school for pharmacy next year. Which one is better?

My niece is studying for her PharmD at Butler. However, I’m sure that as an instate student, she would have preferred the cost of Purdue. She was a late applicant and was lucky to get in anywhere. Purdue is much higher ranked, but I’m not sure that really makes any difference.

Are you instate?

Butler’s PharmD tuition is about twice what Purdue PharmD instate tuition is.

scholarship wise does butler give good money ?

Butler has excellent pass rates for the Naplex exam, so I’m not sure if a ranking really matters between the two. I would check with Butler about the pharmacy scholarships- when my D attended we were told that there were “no pharmacy scholarships, because frankly, we don’t need to offer them.” That may not be true today, though. One advantage of Butler would be their direct entry, guaranteeing you a spot in pharmacy school. Purdue does not offer direct entry, and last year had 638 applications for 150 spots. Also, Butler would be 6 years, whereas if you didn’t get into Purdue’s Pharmacy school after your first 2 years, you’d be looking at more years in school. The average age for Purdue’s admits last year was 22, so clearly not everyone is on the 6 year plan.

one is not better than the other.

you think one school leaves out learning about anti depressants or why some drugs are injected vs. come in pill form. I can promise unless you were born with an IQ above 150 you will be studying very very very hard at either school.

Go to whichever one accepts you. If you get accepted to both, then go to the cheaper one unless your parents are wealthy and will happily pay for either one.

My H’s niece didn’t get into Purdue’s pharmD program, so she had no choice. She has a LOT of undergrad and grad school debt, and now pharmD debt. It’s a concern.
