Buying a Dedicated Scanner

I am a paper hoarder. I’ve never met a piece of paper I didn’t feel compelled to keep…articles, recipes, receipts, flyers, not to mention all the paper you * have * to keep. Consequently, I end up with piles and piles of paper. I am constantly going through my stacks trying to keep them manageable. It drives my husband crazy and quite frankly, I find it exhausting. I do file important stuff but the rest ends up in one of several large piles. I am normally an organized person but this is my main Achilles heel.

I have researched scanners like Neat Desk over the last few years but most have mediocre reviews. I recently found this:

[Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 Scanners | Sheetfed Office Scanners : Fujitsu United States](<a href=“IT products and solutions for a digital world : Fujitsu United States”>IT products and solutions for a digital world : Fujitsu United States)

It’s pricey at $400 but the reviews are outstanding and numerous. People rave about this scanner. It copies both sides at once and you can even scan documents to your smart phone or tablet.

Does anyone have this model or another scanner they like? Does scanning work as an organization system or is it too much work? I have a flat bed scanner on my printer but it is a PITA to use. I love the idea of being able to scan both sides at once and stack the sheet feeder with a variety of paper sizes at once. Just looking for feedback before investing in this. If it works the way I hope it will, it will be well worth the money. Thanks.

On the advice of our CPA who has gone paperless for years, we bought a Fujitsu S1500 several years ago. We haven’t scanned everything yet , but we emptied out a couple of file cabinet drawers as a result.
I have organized all the scanned documents into labeled thumb drives, it’s just easier and more portable for me to find the documents; but I also back them up in a big hard drive.

Thanks. Good to know someone else found a scanner useful. I don’t feel so bad about spending $400 on it!
