<p>Buying a T72 Soviet Era Tank
Hi guys,</p>

<p>I just ran across this article while browsing some car magazine websites.</p>

<p>you can get a refurbished T72 tank for 105000$.
You can also buy a jet fighter bomber- a MiG 21.</p>

<p>What are you thoughts and feelings on this? A tank for christmas in Europe would be sick.

<p>You can get the tank into presumbly France if you bypass Germany through Poland or into the middle east or into some former soviet country. The tank is purchased in Czerch Republic.</p>

<p>For the price of a BMW high class sedan (not a sports car), you too can drive a tank ( FULLY Operational, Cannon NOT CEMENTED, you will never be able to purchase rounds supposedly).</p>

<p>Thoughts? Comments?? Is this something you would want to buy?? If your kid asked you for a tank and you had the resources, how would you feel now?</p>

<p>don’t buy a tank…in most areas in the US, tanks 1) cannot be armed (obviously) 2) must be stowed away in garage at all times and 3) must be reported to local authorities upon purchase</p>

<p>Reading the first couple paragraphs I thought you had in mind my wife’s Christmas present. Glad you clarified. We haven’t even made it to whips and handcuffs, so I hardly think we’re ready to take our relationship to the tanks and MIGs level.</p>

<p>Heck, if he wants to blow his college savings on a tank, he’s 18 now. But he’s on his own for fuel and insurance.</p>

<p>and I saw something on the history channel a while ago saying it’s illegal to operate a tank in the US, but oddly not in London. they had a guy in a highlighter-yellow coloured (as required by law) tank driving through the streets of london.</p>

<p>Guys, you cant bring the tank into the US: it is politically incorrect and Secret service and pentagon would be raising a few red flags. its legal in Europe apparently.
Abrams are 4mil+ to build. Bradley’s are 2mil+.</p>

<p>i gota admit the autocannon the Bradley is pretty kool, high rate of fire fore Anti tank.</p>

<p>Im pretty sure you can drive a tank around in Czerch on roads and stuff. Just warn the cops and the secret police.</p>

<p>It is quite legal for any U.S. citizen who is a licensed pilot to own AND fly a fighter jet, or a jet bomber. Though a few important FAA restraints do apply. </p>

<li>It can’t be capable of supersonic flight</li>
<li>It has to be demilitarized (no weapons or weapons carrying capability)</li>
<li>Ejection seat(s) must be removed (for obvious ground safety encouragement reasons) </li>
</ol>

<p>Actually, history will show that you can roll the tank right into France from Germany. In fact, they’ll set up a puppet government just to help you!</p>

Why take out the ejection seat?
If you are going to crash, wouldnt that screw you over? Hmm, im interested in a pilot license now.</p>

<p>Ejection seats are most often the ONLY way for a pilot to get out of a jet aircraft in flight. Not having an ejection seat forces the pilot of a disabled plane to look for a suitable place to make a crash landing. I.E., away from populated areas. Pretty smart thinking. </p>

<p>It’s against federal law for a civilian plane to fly supersonic in U.S. airspace. The Concord never went supersonic in U.S. airspace.</p>

<p>Actually, Bob Lutz (the retired vice-chairman of GM and a former Marine pilot) owns a MIG-17. </p>

<p>Re supersonic flight: I suspect the FAA frowns on a pilot flying a jet aircraft which is capable of supersonic speed and causing a sonic boom over metropolitan areas.</p>

<p>Really hope it is under 500k- cost of a lower-middle grade copter.</p>

<p>Oh and the tank really isnt that bad- it was one of the best tanks in the 70’s. Just spend some money for laser sights and sensors and maybe get the Raphael Active shielding system (automatically shoots down incoming missles 360 degrees). Its kind of cool like a force field. Might cost alot though.</p>

<p>Lol tk21769, why in the world would you need insurance for a tank?? Who would serious hurt you in a crash?? A full size truck would barely dent the inches and inches of high grade steel/ composite material. If the tank is designed to be shot at by HEAT and ATGM rounds (KE-penetrators weren’t necessary back then), it can take a semi.</p>
