C in 1st Quarter

I’m a junior in high school and I got a 75 in my mandarin class in the 1st quarter(there are 4 quarters total) I have all A’s in my honors classes. I know that colleges look at these grades. Will it affect me if I get accepted into nyu or other universities? I have a 4.04 gpa on a 5 gpa scale

There’s nothing you can do about that grade right now. What you CAN do is work hard to do better for future quarters, as an upward trend is looked at favorably.

Colleges will be a bit more forgiving given the circumstances of the pandemic. Like @PikachuRocks15 said, there really isn’t much you can do now. Focus on what you can improve on including the rest of your quarters, extracurriculars, essays, etc.

I agree with @wildaises because we are living and studying in a time of unprecedented situations, I am sure colleges will understand and excuse one bad grade. I am sure it varies on the school, but will colleges see all grades for the four marking periods or will they see your final grades in each class? If they see the final grades instead of individual marking period grades you should be fine because you have plenty of time to bring that grade up in the next few months.

I would say work hard to get that grade up (like 90s) for the next couple of quarters and maybe try to explain why you did so bad in essays or supps. Like I had a low B in a class but it was because I had a racist teacher… so if anything similar happened maybe explain that in your essays. But also these are really crazy times and especially for juniors with exams, so I wouldn’t worry too much.
