CA colleges that don't require HS diploma

I have a friend who has significant problems at home which have led to depression, lack of motivation and doing poorly in school. She left high school during junior year, took community classes for a year and just dropped out. I think she would do well if she were able to move out and go to college, because she’s really smart but can’t handle the pressure of living at home. So… she needs a college with the following requirements:
-In/near the San Francisco bay area
-Accepts high school equivalency exam instead of a diploma, OR accepts SAT scores instead of a diploma.

thanks!

Considering that your friend has already attended community college for a year, your friend wouldn’t be able to just enter a college without having her community college work be taken into consideration. She will be a transfer student regardless if she graduated from high school or not. This is because she has college work presumably completed, and she’d be applying and would be accepted based on her college work completed.
Any school that would take her with no high school diploma(without consideration of college level work) is most likely a school without good standards, nor with good financial aid. Most of these types of schools tend to be proprietary or for profit schools, and if she’s counting on financial aid that will somehow cover her housing expenses, she’ll be in for a big surprise or a hand full of loans.
Regardless of the situation, it sounds like what your friend needs to do is first relocate(if she is serious about the change in her life) and then re start at a community college. She has the benefit of being a california resident, which means after a year or two or more of a community college she could transfer out.
