D renewed her Ca drivers license. She is currently doing an internship oos. I sent her the new license along with her car registration tags last Thursday. As of today they have not arrived. I sent them first class mail so no way to track.
According to the Ca DMV site to replace a lost license you must appear in person. She has no plan to be back in Ca till December. Has anyone had any luck in replacing a Ca drivers license while being OOS?
I am still holding out hope that they will arrive soon.

It’s common for regular mail to take a week for delivery. If you want a better chance of faster delivery, use priority mail – that is almost always delivered within 2 days and can be tracked.

When she goes back to college, she may be able to get a license in the college community.

If not, does she really have to drive? Or does she use the license mainly as ID? If it’s the latter, could she use her passport instead of her driver’s license as ID until December?

NOT a good idea to get a license in the undergrad community. Later if your D plans on going to grad school in Ca (as my D did) ----one of the items they ask for to re-establish residency was her Ca License.

Regular mail to/from California normally takes a week or so for me, so don’t despair.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.
She needs the license. She has a car and will be driving 19 hours from her internship location back to her university in mid August. Her present license expires mid August.
I should have sent it priority mail.
