Cal Grant = Double Aid?

<p>I was hanging out with one of my student acquantances on Friday night who attends SFSU and is low income, similar to myself. I asked him to enlighten me about financial aid in regards to 4 year university.</p>

<p>He said with a Cal Grant you get basically double the aid, but only for 4 years. I never got Cal Grant.</p>

<p>Is this true/overstatement/exaggeration?</p>

<p>I don’t understand how it “doubles the aid”. I don’t qualify for the Cal Grant either, and I’m no expert by any means, but doesn’t it just cover you tuition and statewide fees for the year if you demonstrate financial need and a competitive GPA?</p>
