I was awarded Cal Grant A on my UCSD financial aid award, but I was awarded Cal Grant B based on Webgrants 4 Student’s site (mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov).

It seems that this lowered the amount I was to receive from the UCSD Opportunity Grant (it’s $2,819.00 instead of what I believe was around $8,000 as was seen on my preliminary one).

Tthe most straightforward method in resolving this issue seems to be emailing or calling the Financial Aid Office, but I was wondering if anyone had the same problem and what they did to resolve it.

Also, how do scholarships impact financial aid awards (i.e., does it lower loans, grants, etc.)?

Call the financial aid office and explain it to them.

Scholarships will take away from grants, not loans. There is an absolute cap on financial aid awards (free money –> grants/scholarships), i.e. they always leave ~5,000 uncovered so that you must either take out a loan to cover all the projected costs (living and tuition) or live frugally. A friend told me it’s because universities believe that one must pay some of the cost of his education to appreciate it, whatever. He also told me thats why he doesn’t report all his scholarships, it’s on you.

BTW Veteran’s education benefits are exempt, i.e. GI Bill, Tuition Assistance, etc.

I had the same thing happen freshman year. I got cal grant B from the webgrants website but I’d say you should trust in UCSD’s financial aid. I got cal grant A from UCSD funds although I was only award cal grant B from webgrants.
