Cal Grant Money

So I received a letter for the Cal Grant, and it says I am entitled to $1551 at UC Berkeley if that’s the school I want to attend (assuming I get in).

I have a few questions:

 1. Is this money that I would have to pay back?
 2. Is there any way to check my FAFSA to ensure that it was correctly filled out? I have heard that if you messed up on it (which I might have done), they require you to pay the money back (which makes 100% sense)…

No. It is a free grant.

Yes. You can log into your FAFSA account using this:

https://fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/AppStatServlet

You’ll need your PIN.

if it turns out that i did fill it out incorrectly, and i still proceed to take the money (knowing, of course, that i have to pay it back), would i be charged interest?

Your CARS account will be charged the full amount of the grant if it turns out they gave it to you in error. If you don’t pay it back, it starts interfering with campus life – they put a block on your account, you can’t register for classes, can’t get transcripts, etc.
