I just got my award notice for USC, and it’s as follows:

My question is, what about Cal Grants? In my preliminary award report from UCSD, it said that my “possible Cal Grant A award” was $6,141. Will I receive this same amount if I attend USC? If so, how do I “claim” this award?

i went to the CAR section and it only listed an award of $6141 for UC Berkeley, UCSD, and UCSB. How do I get an award for USC… and is it all automatic, or do I have to do something?

look for the school change simulator link to estimate how much they’ll give you if you go to USC

and if you’re sure USC is the school for you, click the GO arrow next 2006-2007 and submit the change…a mail confirmation will arrive at your house within a week or two, also check the site to see the revised award detail within a few days

It depends on USC’s policy. I got my Cal Grant after UCSC processed my financial aid, and they actually took away from my university grant the exact amount my Cal Grant was for. :P

you would get more cal grant money for usc than for a uc. the maximum for a private school is like around 8500 which is a possiblity for usc, and for uc’s i think it’s like 4k-6k or something like that. you’d need to ask the school, but with my california private school they offered me their institutional grant plus the cal grant. they didn’t take away from my school grant. they just added the cal grant to my financial award.

well yesterday i called USC and they said that there are federal regulations that force them to reduce their university grant if a cal grant is added after the initial financial aid award is given…
