Cal Poly Class of 2022 Thread

Any word yet on Econ IS?

Daughter was accepted for chemistry last night. In-state. Many of her friends with high stats haven’t heard yet, so hang in there.

can someone pls help me feel better lol i applied cs in state and i haven’t heard back yet :frowning: i have a pretty high gpa i think? and a 1460 sat

im so anxious how do i make it stop

I got accepted to Cal Poly yesterday around 3:30 for liberal studies!!!
GPA weighted: 4.40 unweighted: 4.0
SAT 1440
good luck to everyone!!!

@henrem We need to be patient. There will be more acceptances. There will be a waitlist. The majority of these uber high stats CS students will choose UC’s and other great programs. At the end of this month you will know which program you will be attending to study CS, whether it be Cal Poly or another fantastic school. You are at the beginning of the next great adventure of your life. Be excited, not afraid!

@henrem - My D has very good stats and is still waiting on an admission decision for Mechanical Engineering. It is a small pool of people on college confidential and it seems like many with great stats are still waiting. That’s actually a good sign. I’m guessing there won’t be anything released this weekend though. Here’s to next week! :((

@henrem, I think Cal Poly has released acceptances for computer science to the higher stats applicants only, so far. ACT and SAT scores in the mid 30s and mid 1500s, respectively, are not the norm for this school, and will not be anywhere near the average board scores of those who accept their offer at SLO. These are average scores to get into MIT and Stanford, not Cal States.

There will be a lot more acceptances with normal stats. A 1460 is an excellent score. If you have the gpa, I think you have a good shot to get in. Stop worrying about this stuff, you’re going to do fine whether at SLO or some other great school you get into.

You are going to be fine … it looks like the mass acceptances for many majors haven’t been released yet. What’s your major?

is IS for aerospace not out yet?

@KES2022 you’re right that majority of high-stat students will likely choose a UC or other school, but I’m not convinced acceptances are coming out in any specific order, ie higher stat first… I have ACT 35 and MCA about 4900, and still haven’t heard for CS in-state. Unless there’s just something else wrong with my app, that would be my luck lol

True. Many of the stats posted have been so high I wonder if they will even be attending slo. My d was accepted yesterday for biomedical engineering (in state). Her numbers are roughly 4.2 gpa and 1400 sat. This slow rollout of decisions is emotional torture for all still waiting but hang in there! Good luck!

Isn’t it true that all high stats kids would get in? if they don’t look at essays or someone said don’t consider ECs, then isn’t it factual that if you have high stats - you are in? That is what I gather from reading the boards…Please someone enlighten me as to what they are looking at? It seems like the worrisome decisions and ones who are waiting and anxious are the “average” kids and I use that loosely.

Has anyone heard back from Econ yet?

@sbhs18 I got in for Ag busniess on Thursday

Son got in for Theater Arts! SAT 1340/1390 superscored. I believe GPA was 3.6 or 3.7. So folks out there with GPAs under 4.0, it can happen! (although if you’re applying for engineering or the sciences, maybe not)

I mean at this point mid-1500 sat with a 4.5 GPA isn’t getting you into an ivy. Cal poly wasn’t a reach but it was no where near a safety for me. Affordability is another thing.

@thexumaker but my question is why is it not a safety for someone with your stats? I thought the cal states only look at test scores and grades. There are no essay questions on the app (I thought) and they don’t consider ECs…how can they deny high stats. And, 4.5 and mid-1500s is definitely enough to get into an Ivy. What people don’t understand is that the Ivy schools (and top schools) actually care about what you have done and what you can bring to the school BESIDES grades and test scores.

@Pillow142 I applied for AeroE in state and I haven’t heard yet. 4.3ish GPA with 1510 SAT and good ECs with leadership. I’m hpoing it’s just not out yet. Still holding my breath though

@ KES2022 Well, I’m not trying to burst your bubble, but the computer science acceptance rate for Cal Poly is like 7%. Last year my best friend had an unweighted 4.0 (meaning he never got less than an A in any class) and a 35 ACT. Tons of extracurriculars. All honors classes. He did not get into any computer science program he applied to except UC Santa Cruz. Not SLO ( his first choice). Not Stanford. Not Cal. Not UCLA. He got into UCSB and UCSD but didn’t get into the CS major. He would have had to take classes and apply for CS later. This guy is a superstar athlete. He’s Hispanic. He writes really well. He still didn’t get in. So he’s at Santa Cruz. He loves it. It all works out. But don’t underestimate SLO’s CS program and it’s draw.
