Cal Poly Mechanical Engineering with 3.6gpa

I’m applying in-state with a 3.6 gpa. I have taken 6 AP courses.
I’m from a top ranked public school in CA as well if that matters.

Since test scores are not a consideration in their admissions decision, the Cal Poly’s will rely on GPA, # of a-g courses, HS course rigor and EC’s (for SLO) to determine their acceptance.

Is your 3.6 GPA listed, your CSU capped weighted GPA?

Cal Poly Pomona uses 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation with a 8 semester cap for UC approved Honors, AP, IB or DE courses taken 10-11th grades = CSU capped weighted GPA.

Cal Poly SLO uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation with the same 8 semester cap for the honors points.

A 3.6 makes CPP a slight Reach for ME.

Here is their Freshman admission criteria and the average admit CSU GPA for 2019 was 3.83 so Engineering would be higher.

GPA Requirements
You must receive a 2.5 GPA (3.0 for non-California residents) or higher in the 15 required “a-g” subject courses, with no grade lower than a C-. Additional factors will be considered for applicants with a GPA between 2.0 to 2.49 (2.47 to 2.99 for non-California residents).

Additional Criteria
The following Cal Poly Pomona selection criteria is taken into admission consideration:

  • Academic grade point average in all completed math courses, including math and quantitative reasoning (approved Area C and Area G) courses taken.
  • Priority to students from our local area.
  • Your experiences and special circumstances such as military status, first generation to attend college, work experience, foster youth, extra-curricular activities, leadership positions, work related to major, approved campus partnerships and high school educational programs.

Cal Poly SLO would be a Reach school since their middle 50th percentile was 4.04 – 4.27 for 2020 admits.
