Congratulations to admitted students! We are still waiting to hear and trying not to be too discouraged by lack of response to date.
It was super painful week as about 7 kids from my sons school, people he likes, were admitted on Monday. He’s been happy for them at school and sad at home.
There were WILDLY different “stats”. Several 4.3 plus students and then a few with 3.8 and 3.9 weighted GPA.
I can share more stats later but my son has “only” has. 4.14 weighted but an incredibly rigorous course load, including taking summer classes at our local UC.
He applied for Chemistry.
One more thing: two students from my sons school at Cal Poly this year (last years seniors) said they didn’t hear until around March 20 and another at the end of March. Just a little anecdotal info to hold onto.
For UCD people if you can’t make it on 4/6 also look at going on the weekend of 4/19-4/21 as 4/20 is Picnic Day and a great way to see the university and the city.
Unfortunately, he’s incorrect. The 6% figure is derived by dividing the ENROLLMENT target for ME of 230 freshmen into the estimated # of total freshmen ME apps, which is 3,638.
However, to get to the enrollment of 230, SLO must admit roughly 3x, assuming a 33% yield. But we don’t know yield by major.
If you assume SLO admits 3x or 690 applicants, then the admit rate is 690/3,638 or about 19%. BTW, yield to the College of Engineering in 2023 was 31%.
I have the same question. Is it for dual enrollment courses? My son went ahead and requested a transcript be sent from the JC he did his dual enrollment at. It needs to include their courses in-progress this semester… I am hoping it does?
Unfortunately, the SLO Tribune keeps reporting the same calculation each year for their article on SLO acceptance rates. I’m not sure why they haven’t learned about yields yet. But the 3x the number of slots is the general rule of thumb to use for acceptance rates at SLO.
Any transcript ordered after the beginning of the semester will also include in-progress classes. Just don’t forget to order a new transcript as soon as all classes are complete (and hold for final grades just in case one teacher is slow)
Thank you for the info. Just wished SLO’s process for releasing decisions was like the UCs My dtr is trying to remain hopeful regarding a SLO acceptance. On a positive note Yay for a UCI acceptance last Friday & UCSD & UCLA acceptances today.
I see exactly the same issue on the “Math Placement” form. No score listed to confirm, although we self-reported on application. From your experience, it looks like even official score report won’t work either.
Also, on the form they only have a checkmark for “AP Computer Science Principles” but not “AP Computer Science A”, which is supposed to be a higher level test. Weird.
Did you get a response from Admission or Math department?
Looks like the feeling many people have in this thread is somewhat true. Cal Poly and SDSU have the biggest increase in OOS enrollment, while UC and other CSUs see decrease or stable OOS enrollment.
We did get a response about the wonky math placement survey. They said to pause on completing it and an explanatory email would be going out soon. Very glad to know it’s not a problem specific to us - thank you for posting!
To search for a major, click on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of this discussion. Type in the major, select in this topic and select search. All posts with your major will populate.
If you calculate it this would put some majors at a 70%+ acceptance rate which seems unlikely. So maybe it’s not as straightforward as 3X for every major.
And my kid was admitted to SDSU in December and we are instate. I had no idea they did that. Still crickets from Cal Poly SLO. I anticipate a waitlist or a rejection. This one might hurt a little more than UCLA did yesterday.
