Ok,
I got into some good schools and I narrowed it down to these 3. I went to cal poly during the weekend and went to the polycultural weekend thing. The one thing that really out me off is that I felt like an outsider because everyone was a engineering or architecture major, while I was a history major. I felt as though I was part of a small group. Obviously the weekend was a select group of students and not a good sample. So does anybody have any advice or opinions on Cal Poly and the college of liberal arts. Also any comparisons with the other schools. I know that Claremont McKenna is a very hard school academically and UCLA is UCLA. lol

You’re correct in your observation that Cal Polytechnic SLO focuses on engineering and architecture…it does these programs very well.

Since you’re not interested in those programs, I would choose either UCLA or CMC.

UCLA and CMC are going to be very different environments.

UCLA will have the prestige, the big time sports and large research university atmosphere with top academics…however, there will be larger classes (although for history/humanities majors the classes are much smaller than intro math, econ, and science courses) and less “care and feeding”.

At CMC, you won’t have the big university excitement, but you’ll be going to a top LAC that will give you all the benefits these schools provide their students.

Visit and choose for the environment you like best. You won’t go wrong with either.

If cost is not an issue, CMC has an outstanding reputation in your area of study. I agree with UCBChemEGrad’s comments that UCLA and CMC have very different environments. Both schools are outstanding.
Congratulations!
