Cal Poly SLO vs San Diego State Honors College

I was just wondering opinions about each school. Pros/Cons. I’m just more drawn to Cal Poly because of its reputation of being a better school. At Cal Poly I’m currently enrolled under food science/nutrition but I think I will end up changing. How hard is the major changing process? Is it as impossible as everyone says it is.
Just for reference:
Act composite: 28 math: 28 english: 34 science: 25 reading: 26
GPA W: 4.04

I most likely would like to chance into psychology but that’s not for sure.

It’s very very hard to switch majors at Cal poly - they make it nearly impossible.
I’d go with SDSU honors for the perks and for the slightly easier possibility of switching majors if need be.

I agree with @MYOS1634, if you want to switch majors, SDSU would be easier. For SLO, if you did not qualify as a Freshman admit into Psychology, it can be difficult to switch later but not impossible.

I choose Cal Poly to turn in my housing application, but I’m still waiting on UCSB. Cal Poly is honestly my dream school and I’ve talked to multiple people about switching majors there.

what have you heard about switching?

@Gumbymom @MYOS1634 see above^

If Cal Poly is your dream school why would you consider changing?

My D was accepted to the Weber Honors College and we went to the welcome session. The perks for SDSU Honors college are pretty minimal in my view. A nice dorm, a chance to meet like minded students, and Honors next to your but that’s about it. No priority admission for classes, which would be very good to have at a place like SDSU.

All academic departments should give careful consideration when determining target major options. The following criteria may be considered:

The majors for which the student was eligible at time of admission,
College academic record (e.g., GPA, coursework, etc.), and
Remaining coursework and the student’s ability to complete degree requirements in the new major within the published unit maximums for that major.

Major changing is not all that difficult at CPSLO, unless you are switching into a highly sought after major like psychology. If you are set on psych., I would not recommend SLO over SDSU.

Just to give you an idea–Cal Poly’s projected apps for 2018 (approximates) 200 food science, 400 nutrition, 2,600 psych, and 6,100 bus admin. The difficulty of transferring is correlated to popularity of major and your stats coming in.
