Cal poly

Hi,
So for cal poly slo’s MCA calculations, would advanced math be precalulus and calculus? Can they be just regular courses, or do they have to be AP or honors?

And, does anyone know the average MCA of a communications major applicant for cal poly slo, and what is the acceptance rate into getting into communications at cal poly slo?

My recollection is that CP specifies which ones they consider ‘advanced’ I don’t have the list but, AP Stat isn’t on it.

I don’t recall seeing major level admission stats. A 3.9 and 1280 would probably make you competitive.

SLO’s projected acceptance rate for Communications is 16%. Advanced math would anything beyond their recommended courses of Algebra/Geometry and Trigonometry. So Pre-Calc, Calculus etc… except as noted by @NCalRent Statistics. The math courses do not have to Honors or AP, but having Honors/AP courses gives you a bump in your GPA.

MCA score points by major is still an on going project started by @eyemgh, so I am not sure if he has defined what is considered a competitive MCA.

Ok,
On cal poly slo’s website, it shows the average gpa for majors. So, for liberal arts it’s like 3.87.
Is this weighted or unweighted gpa, and could u please show an example of how cal poly calculates gpa from 9-11 grade?
Is it the weighted or unweighted gpa that goes into the MCA calc?

CP GPA is 9-11th grades for a-g courses with up to 8 semesters of Honors/AP/IB classes for extra points during 10-11th. Just use the Roger hub GPA calculator, add your 9th grades into the calculation and # of semesters of Honors points. It is a weighted capped CP GPA.

Average for each school is posted on SLO’s website, but each major may have lower or higher averages depending upon acceptance rate.

I haven’t compiled MCA data, because there aren’t enough who reported back to make it meaningful. We need more data on rejected applicants and more majors to report.

Remember also, that lower or higher acceptance rates are only part of the story. Aerospace Engineering has a higher projected acceptance rate than GC, but the AE applicant pool is stronger, and thus a harder admit.

Cal Poly GPA also includes grades for H.S Math classes taken in Junior High. Found this out when we went for a visit
