Cal State Long Beach Class of 2030

Cal State Long Beach has started posting Freshman decisions so I am starting this new discussion thread.

You are welcome to discuss anything of interest pertaining to the admission process at Cal State Long Beach along with posting your admissions decision.

Using the template below, please fill out the information and once you hear about your decision.

Best of luck to all applicants.

Decision: Accepted/Rejected/Waitlisted

CSU Capped Weighted GPA (found on CSU application with Maximum of 4.4):
Number of a-g courses taken 9-12th:
Number of UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE classes:
Intended Major:
Local/Non-local CA resident/OOS/International:
Honors College Invite: Yes/No

Daughter got the Admitted email on 2/26. A bit surprised cause I thought CSULB is a reach for her. She has one C in a DE science class in Junior year. She also has 30 A-G classes which dilutes her gpa, but I guess rigor may have helped.

CSU Capped Weighted GPA: 4.0 for the HS classes (capped weighted) and 3.35 for the College Courses (unweighted)
Admitted major: Pre-Microbiology
Number of a-g courses taken 9-12th: 30
Number of UC approved Honors/AP/IB or DE classes: 10 Honors/AP and 8 DE
Non-local CA resident

Waiting: SDSU (may not attend), CPSLO (reach)

Also admitted at CPP and CSULA. Leaning to choose CPP. But if she gets in SLO, will choose SLO. If she gets in SLO, chances are I might also win Powerball :joy:

We’re leaning towards CPP over CSULB and SDSU, because she’s aiming for a Clinical Lab Science post-bacc program and several prereq classes in CSULB and SDSU have lecture only and no lab, which I heard doesn’t help to be competitive to be accepted to the CLS program.

Congrats.

My son found out yesterday that he was waitlisted - which, frankly, was a bit of a shock to me. He has a weighted 4.0 plus is local So.Cal. Weird. I can’t make heads or tails of these decisions - he doesn’t want to go there anyway but I just thought it would be a safety. We are waiting on SDSU, Cal Poly SLO and all the UCs.

FWIW, my S22 got rejected by Long Beach but accepted by SDSU and Cal Poly (same major for all schools). We’re in NorCal so not in the attendance area for any of the three. Each school’s process is definitely a mystery, but it isn’t reason to worry about the upcoming decisions!

CSULB admits heavily and prioritizes the local Long Beach area high school applicants. Local applicants if they meet CSU eligibility requirements will be admitted into their major or Undeclared so non-local applicants have a lower chance of being admitted along with higher GPA requirements.

For example, the average admitted CSU GPA for local applicants was 3.70 but for non-locals it was 3.97 (2024 data).
