Cal state vs UC

Is it true architects graduating from cal poly pomona have hard time finding a job compared to the ones graduating from UC? Does the average graduates from cal poly stay out of job for a while?

Where did you hear that…? Is it statistic or anecdotal?

Anecdotally, all of the half-dozen or so 5-year B.Arch’s that I know who have come through the SLO program are employed before, or soon after graduation.
There was a nationwide slump in architectural hiring back in 2008-10, but that has not been an issue for a few years.

If you’re really interested/concerned, I suggest that you email the department and ask for their graduation outcomes.
Then do the same at whichever UC you’re looking to compare. Remember, however, that the UC will be a 4+2 program.

System-wide, the differences between UC’s and CSU’s is that the CSU’s are more practical, hands-on programs by design, while the UC are geared to be more theoretical and academic.

Good luck.

My husband and I are planning to build a retirement home in California. We met with 6 architects for our project and every single one of the architects was either a grad from Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly SLO. This is really one a few data points, but we found it interesting.

That is an absurd question… No and no
