Calarts applications: What does it mean by preferred deadline?

Hi,

This is a question about the admission deadline of California Institute of Arts. I am planning to apply to Character animation program by December 1st, which is the preferred deadline. However, a question popped into my mind, would applying by the preferred deadline benefit me any way other than cheaper application fee?

I thought applying earlier would put me in a better place, but they will send out the results on March to April anyways right? Does this mean that cheaper application fee is the only benefit?

This is my first time applying to calarts so I’m really not sure if I should apply earlier or take more time on my portfolio.

I would very much appreciate your help.

I can’t find a clear answer. But this in their FAQ;

"The notification period for the admission decision will be approximately March 1 through early April for students that applied by the regular deadline. There may be cases, however, where the decision will come earlier or take longer. "

suggests that there are some possible early decision benefit for preferred deadline submit. And if there is early decision, then their might be possible benefit in admission chance as well.

Good luck. I have been trying to make my daughter to apply for years with no avail.

Thank you for your answer.

Seems like it being early might matter…
