Hi! My daughter hasn’t yet heard back from PSU admissions, but it’s time to sign up for the Calc AB exam. I’m wondering if it’s worth spending the money. For you experienced Penn Staters or parents of those who took Math 140, would it be wise to retake 140 or go straight into 141? (Pending a 4 or 5 on the exam, of course.)
My daughter took the test and scored a 5 and I am pretty sure she tested (Alex’s) out of 140 - but she took 140E. She is an engineering major and felt the easier A would be best for her GPA. Also a Math professor (at a different until) highly suggested she take it- his reasoning it’s your first complex math course in college and felt every student should allow themselves the advantage. I would also like to add her high school Calc teacher is exceptional (every student has scored a 5 over the last 15 years). She will tell you to take the test though because most of her friends in college had problems with Math 140. they had to withdraw- those that had taken their AP test used the credits and just got a tutor to get them ready for 141.
So in her opinion taking the test allows you a choice.
Thank you for your reply. Your point to take it so she can make that choice is a good one! How fortunate for your daughter to have an outstanding teacher in HS!
