Adding: I missed a very important piece of info. I just learned that the choices are DE calc or DE stats. I thought it was calculus (non DE) vs DE stats.

Now that I’m looking into it more this is exactly how its offered as you said. So there is a choice to not pay for the credit. So I think we may take that route. Thank you!

The confusion was on my part, as you were very clear in your initial post. I must have been tired!
I recommend calculus, but if she thinks it may be a tough class she may want to think about taking it as a regular class and not DE. This way it will not show up on her college transcript that is sent to grad schools.
But I still recommend looking at the BS vs BA in biology and seeing if there is a difference as far as calculus is concerned.
DD’s BA in Biology degree did not require calculus but she did take both Calc I and Statistics in college (she took Honors Calc in HS). The reason she did this is because it provided her with more options for PA program applications as some do require Calc (most don’t). The vast majority require statistics only. Definitely keep in mind that most PA programs combine grades taken twice or more in college so if she gets a C in Stats (college credit course) and retakes it again in college and gets an A, her Stats grade will be a B on CASPA. This will affect her CASPA GPA.
Just something to keep in mind when taking courses for college credit (DE).
ETA: Just something else to consider - a lot of PA programs also do not accept IB or AP credit for their prerequisite courses. Definitely very school-specific.

Do they also consider repeating AP or IB credit to be undesirable “grade grubbing”, and do they accept more advanced college courses in substitution (e.g. calculus 2 after AP calculus AB credit)? This seems like the same kind of minefield that pre-meds have to consider.
It is all very school-specific. It involves a lot of research into each individual program to see what they accept for prerequisites. Some will accept higher level courses where others want you to follow their prerequisite sequence to a “t.” Some frown upon taking prerequisites at other schools besides your home college while some don’t care where you take them. Some accept online courses where some do not. Some will also want you to send in course descriptions and syllabi if the title of the course you took doesn’t match theirs (common with many liberal arts course names for what they consider General Bio/General Chem I & II).
ETA: I think more than not the PA programs want to see the typical prerequisite sequence followed and don’t view it as “grade-grubbing.”
If you choose to not take the AP exam (allowable in our HS but not all) or do not submit the AP score to college, I do not think AP classes appear on the college transcript.
Someone correct me if this is incorrect.

Correct - there would be no credit requested. These are hs classes.
If you are talking about what AOs consider more prestigious for admissions? calc, no question.

Agree. And I think even HS level calc (non-AP or DE) would be considered (at least) as rigorous as AP Stat.
