Calculate your chances for admission to Harvard?

nothing is more discouraging than unappreciated sarcasm

I wanted to apply to harvard, and I was wondering what my chances are. I make pretty much all A’s and B’s and have had a few C’s here and there but not a lot. I recieved a 1240 on my SAT’s the first try and have just recently taken them again. So based on just that what are my chances of getting in?

Is that 1240 including the writing section?

Either way, your chances are very, very low. Harvard’s 25th percentile SAT score is somewhere above 2100. Check out this: [College Search - Harvard College - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board) and this: [The Office of the Provost | Common Data Set](http://www.provost.harvard.edu/institutional_research/common_data_set.php)

So do you think the late interview is indicative of an “on the fence decision”? Because that’s what I’ve been told by people on here and two of my friends at harvard (although I dont see how they would know lol) Or are they interviewing me out of courtesy, since I’ve never had my first interview?

Also does this mean that Harvard has not yet concluded its evaluation process?

Harvard hasn’t concluded its evaluation process.

I don’t know if they’re on the fence about you. No one except the admissions officers knows that.

Thanks for all your help! :D

from your experience, do applicants whom you interview late tend to be accepted or rejected? or is there no pattern

sorry I’m just looking for hope ;)

This is the most useless and stupid chance thread ever…it should be deleted. Seriously, what losers come on here and post random jokes and think that they are actually funny. Get a life.

^ You should know that the “loser” you’re so rudely referring to is a Harvard alum.

Besides, I thought it was funny.

SAT: 2300
PSAT: 231 (Natinal Merit)
GPA: All A’s, 4.0 (UW) / 4.3+ (W)
Rank: 7/740
AP: 6 AP scores (4, 4, 5,5,5,5)
Major: Pre-law

Good debater (National rank 31), but didn’t mention on resume
Had a local interview in Dallas, Texas
Does not have likely letter

^ Seems like someone missed the point of this entire thread…

Honestly, NONE of us can calculate you likelihood of admissions. Asking us to will only bring you increased anxiety.

Not much anxiety, D got full-ride merit scholarship for SMU already (as her backup?).
Thanks again.

^ Good for your daughter! I’m sure she’ll do very well wherever she goes!

BinChen - Your daughter is quite impressive. My daughter got in to Harvard with slightly less of your D’s stats but a highly reputable high school. I would like to think she has some strong points that impressed Harvard that were not in those stats. But nonetheless, good luck and let us know

Northstarmom,
I loved what you wrote! It was extremely clever, and helped stress the fact that some of the things that people say about Harvard are COMPLETELY untrue. When people think Harvard, they automatically think; spoiled, rich or genius, which is a complete and utter misunderstanding. I found what you wrote witty and extremely truthful.

I was wondering if I could tell you a little bit about myself, and then you could give me pointers and tips on how to prepare and refine myself for Harvard.
I am only a high school freshman, but I still want to know all that I can about Harvard and what I can do to make them see that I belong in their school.
thank you!

omg. gag me. seriously, you don’t belong anywhere and you were not born for harvard. I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but what if you DONT get in? Does that mean you were born for nothing?

@IWasBorn4Harvard - what exactly do you like about Harvard, besides the prestige?

I am really confused! Can someone explain to me exactly what grade is sophomre, junior and freshmen is? Like is junior from grade 8-9 or something?

9 = freshman
10 = sophomore
11 = junior
12 = senior

18,270 posts and this is the most temperate post you could come up with. While it may seem funny to some, its insulting to many kids who come on here and earnestly just look for an answer if they are “in the ballpark” of the stats to get into Harvard. I do not see how that shows a “lack of critical thinking” or “confidence.” There are many brilliant people who were not always confident. Hmm, Stephen King comes to mind, a minor author…sure maybe not brilliant to a Harvard Alumni. Confidence and over confidence is associated with arrogance and one would in fact hope that a bit of humility would be a welcome quality in an applicant. Apparently not in your view. It also leaves the impression that posts to a supposedly anonymous board, could somehow reduce your chances of getting into a school. I would hope that the purpose of this forum is to educate and enlighten, not to discourage, and show disdain for others. Harvard may have students with the best statistics, and grades, ECs, etc. but it hardly means that its students have “earned the right to be arrogant”…in fact one would hope that quite the opposite would occur. To be given an opportunity to enter into one of the finest Universities in America should make anyone humbled, not that they have earned the right to be arrogant. Seems that you were not a philosophy major at Harvard? Good luck…Funny, now we never hear from an adcoms person the possession of “humility and kindness” would be assets to a school. Sure seems that it would create a sense of community, rather than cut throat competition. Sure, the real world etc. but a school is supposed to foster qualities to be admired, arrogance is surely not one of them…ok tell me why I am wrong?

First of all, it was just a joke. You don’t have to write a whole paragraph telling people how insulting the op was. Second of all, the point of the comment wasn’t to discourage and show arrogance and disdain but to convey the point that you just simply can’t calculate the chances of getting in Harvard! Plus, NSM is only sharing her opinion of the fact that, she does not think asking strangers to calculate one’s chances to get into a particular school is an appropriate way of gaining confidence. Although some people may not lack critical thinking just because they posted a “chance me”, but the comment can be perceived as a suggestion telling us that maybe instead of wasting all our time trying to get strangers to tell us whether we can get in harvard or not, we can go do something productive instead (which is the way I look at it).
