Calculator for Calculus 2?

Would a T-84 work? I know nothing about calculus, but I bought a T-84 for a stats class and I am wondering if my nephew can use it for calculus 2

If they let ya use a Ti-89 do it lolololol it’ll do all the work for you or you can check your work when you need to
You may or may not need a graphing calculator. Ti-36x Pro if they are picky about the 89 or graphing calcs. Maybe it’ll be no calculator

A TI-84 has more than enough capabilities for calc 2. There’s no reason to buy an even more expensive calculator, especially since there’s no guarantee the professor will even allow the use of a calculator.

Precisely that of the above: most of the time, graphing calculators are not even allowed in Cal 2

At my school, my roommate was allowed to have a graphing calculator for calc 2. It might be different for the calc 2 at your nephew’s school, so personally I would either:

a) Have the TI-84 for the class
OR
b) Wait until class starts and read the syllabus to see if graphing calculators are even allowed for the course

At my school, all the math teachers recommend graphing calculators. How does the teacher expect the students to do the work without them? I remember when I took Intermediate Algebra, some of the problems had 20+ different steps to them. It would take way too long to solve a problem without a calculator in Pre-Calculus and beyond. I don’t know why a teacher wouldn’t allow them. The work is still hard even with the calculator.

This depends on the professor. Some of my friends that have taken cal 2, were allowed to use one. But this is somewhat pointless because they will give you the answer without showing work. In my cal 2 class, all that was allowed on tests was the TI-30, which is just a basic scientific calculator. It would certainly be beneficial to him at some point though, I am sure.

I would have the student ask the professor.

I don’t recall ever using a calculator for calculus, and if my daughters have one I don’t remember paying for it (but I could have forgotten it in the pile of bills). They do both have laptops. As you get into higher math (I was a math major) you end up with more equations and fewer calculations. I do recall writing programs for some graduate math classes.
