Calculator for Electrical Engineers?

Hi all,

I was wondering what calculator I should buy… I’m an incoming freshman EE major on the recommended plan. This fall I’ll be taking Intro to Electrical/Computer Engineering, Intro to Computing, Differential and Integral Calculus, General Engineering and an elective.

I’ve narrowed down my choices between the TI-89 and the new TI-Nspire CX. My main concern is if there are limits on what type of calculators are allowed on tests. If not, I’ll definitely go with the CX.

Thank you for your help.

There are no limits on the type of calculator you have in your EE classes. Not true for math classes. Go with the 89 if you can.

kkwa… looks like I’ll go with the 89. I’ve read some bad reviews of the new Nspire CX and the 89 seems more useful for engineers.

I also have a Casio scientific calculator if graphing calculators aren’t allowed. Thanks for your help!
