Calculator Requirements - Exeter Math

tuesdayair -

Do you remember what graphing calculator model is required for preps?

i am going to exeter as a prep and i have a TI-84 Silver editon (graphing calculator). i also have a scientific calculator. i don’t know about the requirements though.

Son also has a TI-84 Silver - I really do not want to buy one more thing at this point and am hoping it satisfies requirements.

i don’t think there is much higher that they come. besides, they are sort of expensive. i don’t think they’d require you to spen 100+ dollars on a calculator.

I strongly recommend getting a TI 89 if you don’t already have a graphing calculator. That’s what we use in the classroom. I used to have a TI 83+ (so much easier to use in my opinion), but I got an 89 Titanium Prep winter because I couldn’t follow along with the special features we were learning in class. Oh and once you get to calculus, you’ll want to have an 89. It does everything for you =D

HOWEVER, if you already have one and don’t want to spend $100+, Security has a bunch that people lost and never retrieved so you can borrow those at no cost.

Also if you bought a calculator write the serial number down… will help if you lose it at one point

Thanks. That wasn’t the answer I was hoping for  !
I bought the TI-84 for Access Exeter last summer - I wish they had recommended the 89. Now I feel stuck - we have spent so much money in the last several weeks on dorm supplies/clothes that I am trying to save anywhere I can. This is probably not the place to do it, however.

what math class were you in?

liddyb4, just get one from security

cglen- I started off in transition 3 accl.

what do you think i should get for tr1?

TI 89…same calculator.

We asked the math dept. They recommend the TI-89 but they said the TI-84 or 83 would be okay for the first year. After that you will have to buy a TI-89.
