TI-84 vs TI-89

what are pros and cons?

I don’t have a clue. I just had to rent my first graphing calculator from my school for AP Stats and it’s a TI-83. I still don’t know how to use it though…

I prefer the TI-89 over the TI-84. But, honestly, it is really a matter of if you can use it or not. The TI-84 is a lot easier to use than the TI-89, but the 89 has much more useful functions (i.e. the CAS) that requires more time to handle.

If I were you, try them out before buying.

I love the TI-89. Powerful once you know how to use it, and has a very clean interface and screen. Kinda overkill for some classes, and might be more trouble than it’s worth for courses designed around the 83.

I’d personally find out what calculators your teachers are going to use as demo models in class. Only buy a different model if (a) you’re willing to take the time to use it and/or (b) the teacher is willing to take the time to help you with it.

i used the TI 84 throughout Calc AB

I think I’ll try out the 89 for BC.

Pros:

Cons:

Okay, I really do think that the 89 is superior, but I have no idea how to use it save basic functions like addition. If you do figure out how to use it, and your teachers teach from it, than try it.
