Calculus II placement exam?

I heard the pass rate is 6%. Why is it so hard? I’m taking Calc II to transfer, but they won’t take my credit, so I’m going to take the placement exam. What’s so hard about it? Has anyone here taken it?

just to clarify: maybe I am missing something but why would you take Calc II to transfer and then find out it will not transfer?

To answer your question, I had a friend who thought he was some math whiz (got a 5 on calc bc), and he did not pass the calc 2 exam. That is a testament to the test’s difficulty.

What you consider Calc II may not match up with what Penn considers Calc II. Math 114 is where folks who got 5’s on BC end up; Math 240 follows it. Spend some time on the Math site and in the curricula to make sure you take the right test for what you’ve taken.

not sure about the penn aspect, but 40% of BC test takers get 5s so that doesn’t make someone a math whiz.

For ColumbiaHopeful, admissions and the math department screwed up for some of us transfers. The letter they sent out said that we needed to do Calc II before being accepted, whereas in reality the math department doesn’t accept credit for summer classes taken at other institutions. The math department only told us this a few weeks ago, after we had signed up for the classes. It’s stupid, but long story short we’re taking the classes now at various institutions, but we still have to either place out of Calc II with a placement exam or take it again at UPenn.

is it really hard to pass the math 114 placement exam? it would be better then if I just take it at UPenn instead of preparing for it from now
