As an Ontario high-schooler, I have seen classmates get 99% and 100% in math and science courses, where all evaluation is testing. More than a third of my school is on the long honour roll (term average 85%+). There is a section on the honour roll for students with term averages above 95% that usually has two or three students on it. These are the kids who get full-ride scholarships to Harvard and get into Oxford at age 15. Most of the highest scorers are younger than average for their grade and home-schooled.

As to the calculus thing? Functions 12th is a prerequisite/concurrent; at my school, they were scheduled both at the same time. This means you need to take summer school or skip a grade to take it. However, it’s a prerequisite for most universities. Ontario’s stream system seems to force students to do a lot of work for very little learning.
